Bio
Alec Spiegelman is a Brooklyn-based singer, composer, arranger, & multi-instrumentalist specializing in woodwinds.
Alec has performed and/or recorded with Miss Tess, The David Wax Museum, Anais Mitchell, Rebecca Loebe, Bob Moses, Bob Brookmeyer, Mandy Moore, Apollo Sunshine, Eilen Jewell, Josh Ritter, Ayn Inserto, Dan Blake, Brian Viglione, Gill Aharon, Audrey Ryan, Andrew Dimola, Nat Mugavero, Kris Delmhorst, and Little Joe Cook, among many others.
A graduate of New England Conservatory and Harvard College, Alec studied with Steve Lacy, Ran Blake, Bob Brookmeyer, and Bob Moses.
Of late, Alec can be heard playing 80′s pop songs reimagined for the saxophone duo Ronald Reagan, navigating obscure bebop lines with Lefteris Kordis and Thor Thorvaldsson in The Bebop Trio, and singing his original “pop” songs with the experimental folk orchestra Cuddle Magic.
Alec’s original compositions for jazz ensemble — variously enlisting Jeff Galindo, Eric Hofbauer, Mike Baggetta, Jeff Davis, Lefteris Kordis and Nat Mugavero, among others — attempt the quixotic task of blending those influences.
“a very gifted clarinet, flute and bass clarinet player … He’s quite a guy” – Bob Brookmeyer
