GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) is a hands-on international science and education program that brings together students, teachers, scientists and community members in over 100 countries to develop environmental awareness, understanding of other cultures, and a sense of global community. GLOBE offers a cross-curricular approach to the study of science, mathematics and technology in conjunction with geography, social studies, languages and the arts. There are more than 55,000 GLOBE-trained teachers representing over 1.5 million students from more than 24,000 schools around the world. GLOBE students have contributed more than 22 million measurements to the GLOBE database for use in their inquiry-based science projects.

GLOBE is an interagency program with a management infrastructure funded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the National Science Foundation (NSF), supported by the U.S. Department of State, and implemented through a cooperative agreement between NASA and the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) in Boulder, Colorado. UCAR is a non-profit consortium of research universities in over 30 different countries, serving as an international hub for research, education, and public outreach for the atmospheric and Earth system science community. The International Division of the GLOBE Program, including the GLOBE Help Desk serving the worldwide GLOBE community and the GLOBE North America Regional Office, is located at a UCAR-GLOBE satellite office at the University of Texas at Tyler (UT Tyler).

spacer The International Division of the GLOBE Program Office (GPO) moved to the UT Tyler campus in September 2009. The GLOBE International Division serves as liaison to the GLOBE community, including coordinators in 111 countries and more than 130 U.S. Partners, as well as GLOBE teacher, student, and scientist networks around the world. The International Division is responsible for ensuring that the development and ongoing support of all GLOBE countries are fully integrated with GLOBE education and science, as well as with programmatic activities related to systems development, communications, marketing, sustainability and evaluation. Stories posted to the home page of the GLOBE Program website are produced by the International Division. The GPO International Division training facility is located at Camp Tyler, just minutes from campus. Of the 130+ GLOBE Partners across the U.S., 35 are located in the state of Texas, most of which collaborate through the extensive Texas Regional Collaboratives network.

The GLOBE Program was featured in The University of Texas at Tyler Magazine in Fall 2010.
