Texas Bowl Primed for Fireworks, On and Off the Field

Over 33,000 Tickets Already Sold

The regular season is quickly coming to an end as both the Big East and Big 12 conferences are gaining an enormous amount of attention across the country. Based on the explosive offensive styles of both leagues, the fireworks on the field could be equal to the "Largest Holiday Fireworks Show in Texas" that will follow the game.

Already over 33,000 tickets have been sold for the Inaugural Texas Bowl and while there are still great seats available, once the teams are announced on December 3 they will go fast. Fans purchasing tickets for the 2006 game, through the Texans, will be considered season ticket holders and have first rights to those same seats next year.

There are other ways to become involved and participate in Bowl Week activities and receive special recognition as well with Bowl Backer Packages. For more information on becoming a part of this great community event call 832-667-2012.

The Big 12 and Big East Conferences now have 13 teams combined that are bowl eligible and a few others that are fighting for a chance at post-season play. The Texas Bowl is almost assuredly in line for one of the three most talked-about teams in the nation this season — Louisville, West Virginia or Rutgers, out of the Big East. The Texas Bowl will match the No. 3 team from the Big East against a Big12 squad that could likely include Kansas State, Oklahoma State or Texas Tech. There is still a lot of football to be played and things could change dramatically in the Big 12 as is evidenced by KSU's upset win over Texas.

Three Big East teams now rank in the top 10. Rutgers jumped from No. 13 to No. 6 following its 28-25 victory over third-ranked Louisville on Nov. 9. West Virginia moved up from 10th to eighth in the standings after a 42-24 win versus Cincinnati on Nov. 11. The Cardinals are 10th in this week's BCS standings. Louisville beat West Virginia 44-34 at the Cardinal's stadium on November 2, and the Scarlet Knights are scheduled to take on the Mountaineers on December 2 at West Virginia. The Scarlet Knights are one of only four remaining unbeaten teams in Division I-A.

The Big 12 Conference's game results are always unpredictable because the teams are all very close in talent. Kansas State defeated #4 Texas 45-42 last Saturday, destroying the Longhorn's national title dreams. Oklahoma State upset Nebraska 41-29 in week 9 and proves to be tough competition for every opponent. Texas Tech has had many close games this season including a 31-27 victory over Texas A&M on September 30. The Wildcats, Cowboys, and Red Raiders are all bowl eligible and will give any Big East team a run for their money.

The inaugural Texas Bowl is on its way to becoming the newest Texas football tradition by bringing two football powerhouses to battle it out at Reliant Stadium on December 28, 2006. There are many exciting events around the Texas Bowl to create an entertaining celebration of the culture, heritage and football tradition of the Lone Star State. Activities will include TexFest, a free pre-game celebration for all fans featuring team pep-rallies, live music, food and interactive games, and the largest holiday fireworks celebration in the state of Texas.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit Depelchin Children's Centers, one of Houston's oldest and most respected charities.
