This online community calendar is available to all two dozen e-Vermont communities as a way to
1) display events in your town in one central place, and
2) enable local websites to display the calendar on their pages, through a special widget.
Adding Events
Click the "Add Event" button to submit a form with your event details. The event will typically be posted to your local community calendar within a day or two.
[--OR-- If you are a Front Porch Forum (FPF) member, you can add an event the same way you submit an FPF posting – either login at frontporchforum.com/ and add a new posting, or hit reply to an FPF e-newsletter issue. In your post, be sure to include the event name, date, time, location, web address (if applicable) and other details. Your post will appear in an upcoming FPF e-newsletter, as well as in the calendar.]
Displaying the Calendar on Your Website
Each FPF-eVT community calendar is a widget. Anyone is welcome to take a widget and place it on their website or blog. There are two options – narrow (for sidebars) and wide. Simply select your community from the drop-down menu below, and hit GO to get to your community calendar code page. There you can grab the code for your site or blog.
Getting the Most Out of the Calendar
You can help make the calendar a success in your community by: 1) Posting community events you know about to it; 2) Passing the information about this calendar tool along to key folks from each community institution (municipal government, library, schools, churches, business associations, non-profits, etc.) and encouraging them to post their events and add the widget to their websites if appropriate; and 3) Sending a monthly post to your Front Porch Forum email list (if you're an FPF member) – and any other email lists in town – reminding everyone in town to check out the coming month’s calendar.
Joining Front Porch Forum
Every town participating in the e-Vermont Community Broadband Project has their own Front Porch Forum. FPF helps neighbors connect and build community by hosting regional networks of online neighborhood forums. Every posting comes from a clearly identified nearby neighbor. If you are an FPF member (it's free), then you can post events to both the calendar and your FPF e-newsletter by simply replying to an FPF e-newsletter issue.
