Grant Programs

The Forbes Funds currently provides three types of grant opportunities to help nonprofits build their management capacity.

Management Assistance Grants

Management Assistance Grants are designed to strengthen the management capacity of nonprofit organizations providing human services and/or community development in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The Forbes Funds' support allows organizations to retain technical assistance consultants who help directors and staff assess their strategic environment, identify unmet needs and opportunities, and develop efficient organizational structures and processes. Modest grants are made for well-defined projects that are custom-tailored to an organization's capacity-building needs. Indirect costs (e.g. salaries and rent) are not covered. Grants range from $500 to $20,000.

An organization qualifies for a MAG if:
it is located in Allegheny County
  is a 501(c) 3 organization
is a human services and/or community development organization
it will use a consultant to guide the project work
is willing to undertake a capacity-building challenge that is not already underway.

Cohort Grants

The Forbes Funds uses a Cohort model to work with groups of organizations that share similar capacity needs. The Cohort model identifies the key needs shared by organizations, develops a strategy for addressing those needs for all participating organizations and encourages peer learning. The Forbes Funds solicits requests for Cohort Grants by issuing formal Requests for Proposals or inviting agencies to apply. If you wish to receive information on future cohort opportunities, contact us.

Collaboration Fund

As one of the special initiatives implemented by The Forbes Funds, the Collaboration Fund provides assistance to nonprofits around a particular challenge facing the nonprofit sector such as financial management or strategic restructuring. The Collaboration Fund encourages collaborative efforts among nonprofits by offering them informational workshops and grantmaking programs. We invite you to learn more about our recent special initiatives and to contact us us to be notified of future opportunities.
