People of Fargo-Moorhead: be the change you want to see in the world!

Since September 17th a peaceful protest movement in New York City, known as “Occupy Wall Street,” has been advocating for social and economic justice.   As a result, thousands of participants, fed up with the gross and ever-widening division between America’s richest 1% and the rest of society have come together.  Occupy Fargo-Moorhead stands in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street Declaration.

The movement’s General Assembly voted on this Declaration describing what they are seeking: “As one people, united, we acknowledge the reality: that the future of the human race requires the cooperation of its members; that our system must protect our rights, and upon corruption of that system, it is up to the individuals to protect their own rights, and those of their neighbors; that a democratic government derives its just power from the people, but corporations do not seek consent to extract wealth from the people and the Earth; and that no true democracy is attainable when the process is determined by economic power. We come to you at a time when corporations, which place profit over people, self-interest over justice, and oppression over equality, run our governments.”

Many of us are facing weakening job security and rising unemployment, outrageous amounts of student debt or medical bills, alongside the ongoing financial crisis. You are not alone.  The democratic process is no longer serving the interests of the other 99%, but people are coming together to be the change that they want to see.  Join us, Occupy Fargo-Moorhead, as we stand in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street. You can find us on Facebook, the time and location of meetings are posted online.

In solidarity,

Occupy Fargo-Moorhead
