The Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL) was founded in October 1994 as the Northern Virginia Citizens Defense League (NVCDL). The group experienced enormous growth in membership statewide and was incorporated as VCDL in May of 1998.

VCDL is a non-profit, non-partisan, grassroots organization dedicated to advancing the fundamental human right of all Virginians to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution and Article I Section 13 of the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Regarding concealed carry in restaurants ... "The law was a victory for the Virginia Citizens Defense League, a gun-rights organization that makes the NRA look moderate."
Eleanor Clift - - Politics Daily - July 5, 2010

"[VCDL] campaigns for the right of gun owners to tote firepower in all kinds of places ... including outdoor festivals and college campuses."
The Daily Press - Oct 20, 2007

"Virginia Citizens Defense League . . . is on a mission to root out every nugget of gun control it can detect in Virginia. It has been behind campaigns to make sure concealed weapons are allowed in local government buildings, even civic centers, and fought to open up state and local parks to concealed weapons."
The Daily Press - Nov 27, 2006

"They're pretty effective, I have to give them credit."
Jim Sollo, Chairman of Virginians Against Handgun Violence
Virginian Pilot - Nov 11, 2002

spacer VCDL's Operation Campus Safety

The Board of Directors of VCDL has decided that enough is enough when it comes to the safety of the students, faculty, staff, and guests at Virginia public universities and colleges. Higher-education "no gun" policies do not make the innocent any safer. Instead such policies enable people like Cho to wantonly massacre, rape, and rob.

VCDL WILL BE PROTESTING AT A SCHOOL NEAR YOU!

Media Coverage

George Mason University - November 9, 2011
Media Coverage

Virginia Tech - November 17, 2011
We have approval for the protest from 8 AM to 4 PM on Thursday, November 17th. While some of us will be there early, the main protest will start at 11:30 AM and run until 4 PM. Speakers will start at 12 Noon and continue until 1:30 PM. We will need lots of people to carry signs, pass out literature, and answer questions.

This should be an excellent day to be on campus as it is a game day (UNC vs VT), allowing us maximum visibility. We are also looking at having a presence in nearby Blacksburg.

The protest will be held in front of the Squires Student Center (College Ave./Otey Street side), not far from the town of Blacksburg or the VT Drillfield.

Parking and Speaker Information

Virginia Commonwealth University - December 1, 2011
The protest will run from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM at the VCU Commons Plaza.

VCU Students for Concealed Carry on Campus is sponsoring VCDL for this event. Thanks to John Allen, who is SCCC's President, for making the arrangement, including lining up the PA system.

More details to follow.

spacer *** What you NEED to know ***
*** about the GW Parkway! ***

Now that gun carry in National Parks is governed by the substantive law of the state which encompasses the National Park, we expect many Virginia residents as well as visitors will choose to exercise their right to carry as they drive the George Washington Parkway. But there is something you need to know!
