Xyratex Announces OneStor™ 2584

Ultra-dense storage solution designed for scale-out and scale-up applications

Havant, UK – March 21, 2012 – Xyratex Ltd (Nasdaq: XRTX), a leading provider of data storage technology, today announced  the OneStor™ 2584, an ultra-dense storage platform for Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) providers targeting converged infrastructure solutions and scale-out storage systems for the cloud and data centers.

The vast amount of data generation and the need to store it show no signs of slowing down; meanwhile the complexities of storing large amounts of data present reliability, power management and floor space challenges. OneStor 2584 is designed to meet these data growth and management challenges with a flexible and scalable architecture that allows for greater reliability, serviceability, availability and lower total cost of ownership over the life of the product.

As the newest addition to the OneStor family, OneStor 2584 offers the most versatile enterprise storage solution design utilizing a modular, standards-based architecture that combines storage density, server integration, intelligent platform management and power efficiency.

“IDC predicts data storage usage will continue to grow at an aggressive pace and that 84% (over 147,000 petabytes) of the worldwide capacity estimated to be shipped in 2015 will be made of traditional unstructured data as well as data stored in cloud and content depots. With a growing proportion of this data designated as mission critical, the need for reliable data storage solutions in a highly dense footprint is compelling,” said Benjamin Woo, Program Vice President, Worldwide Storage Systems at IDC. “The OneStor solution offers OEMs a flexible and scalable architecture in an industry leading ultra-dense form factor to address today’s appetite for storage.”

OneStor 2584’s ultra-dense data storage architecture can deliver up to two petabytes of enterprise grade storage in a standard data center rack using today’s 3TB drives, reducing complexity of multiple enclosures, increasing reliability with less cabling, and improving rack utilization by as much as 67% over current enclosure technologies. Each OneStor 2584 can pack up to 84 3.5” or 2.5” SAS or SATA hard disk or solid state drives into a five rack unit (5U) enclosure and boasts a high availability power supply design that has achieved a High Efficiency 80 PLUS® Gold Certification.

Two configurations are available:

• OneStor SP-2584 is ideal for digital media, compliance retention and near line data archive solutions. It is an ultra-dense modular storage enclosure which uses single or dual 6Gb/s SAS I/O modules, enables scale-up capacity architectures and supports 6Gb/s  SAS  end-to-end  configurations  providing  an  effective  maximum throughput of up to 14.4 GB/s.

• OneStor AP-2584 delivers an integrated server and storage architecture. The AP-2584 can support a diverse set of scale-out storage applications including Big Data analysis, converged infrastructure and virtual server integration into storage. It is an ultra-dense application platform that includes one or two embedded server modules, application power protection and storage and data network connections. When paired, embedded server modules can deliver more scale-out processing and/or can be configured for high availability.

Both OneStor 2584 configurations include Xyratex’ Unified Systems Management (USM), an application programming interface (API) that provides access to active sensors, management of server and enclosure services and automated policy based actions for enterprise level reliability, availability and serviceability. USM is available across the OneStor family allowing OEMs to design management and diagnostic capabilities universally across their product lines. This simplifies development and testing and enables OEMs to quickly bring new storage solutions to market.

“As the pace of change continues to accelerate, innovation in storage technologies has become essential. The OneStor family of enterprise data storage solutions enables our OEM customers to provide investment protection and time to market advantages that end users expect,” said Andy Morgan, Xyratex Business Line Manager. “Xyratex has a long history of providing innovative data storage solutions and the OneStor 2584 exemplifies our ability to alleviate the complexities of power and cooling in an ultra dense form factor with enterprise quality, reliability and serviceability.”

The OneStor 2584 is available exclusively through Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
