Fire Pot Tongs are a traditional Chinese tool used to manipulate hot coals for cooking purposes but you will find dozens of other uses for these simple tongs both at the forge and in the home. Whether for the barbecue, wood stove, kitchen, these will become one of your favorite tools. This project will introduce you to basic techniques such as drawing out and riveting as well as making a simple box joint. In addition, two "must-have" blacksmithing tools will be made - a slitting chisel (where you will learn basic heat-treating techniques) and centerline scribe, both not only necessary for making the hot pot tongs, but many other blacksmithing projects as well.

The White Water Derby is in its 55th year running on May 5th and May 6th. Starting from North River on 11am Saturday, the Novice and Giant Slalom races will take place on the Hudson River with the Chuck Severance Race running immediately after. The Downriver Race will be held on Sunday, starting at 11am from North Creek to Riparius. Local rafting companies are expecting the white water to be phenomenal this year. Spectators can choose from a number of spots along the Hudson for fantastic views of all the races. For more information about the Derby Races and registration visit the webiste.
