Deltakame, BCC # 4: Art is not a Prize Fight.

By admin | Published: September 20, 2011

DeltaKame is pleased to present BCC #4: Art is not a Prize Fight, a regimented competition featuring twelve artists, decked-out model boats, and a set of precise instructions. The participating artists’ creative liberties have been materially slimmed down by curatorial dictate: artists must use a readymade boat designed for children as their platform, and all additional flourish must be inspired from an emailed file, sent by another artist at the invitation of each competing artist. With their artistic prowess bound, success before their peers is dependent upon the strength of their lungs - and the ability to blow it.

Marlous Borm (& Antek Walczak)
Dora Budor (& Maja Cule)
Skye Chamberlain (& Billy Rennekamp)
Anne de Vries (& Matthew Lutz-Kinoy)
Felisa Funes (& Leilah Weinraub)
Kinga Kielczynska (& Joanna Zielinska)
Mirak Jamal (& Tore Wallert)
Darri Lorenzen (& Joel Holmberg)
Joseph Redwood-Martinez (& Annonymous)
Martin Kohout (& Honza Zamojski)
Benedicte Sehested (& Maria Zahle)
Mark Soo (& Jen Weih)

Sunday 28 August, 5pm.  Wannsee, Berlin.

Travelin’ Light

By admin | Published: May 2, 2011

Grimmuseum presents “Travelin’ Light” groupshow curated by Felisa Funes
May 5 – May 22 2011
Opening Thursday May 5, 19-23h

Travelin’ Light
…with Juliette Bonneviot, Marlous Borm, Simone Gilges, Kinga Kielczynska, Sophie Reinhold, Heji Shin, Juliane Solmsdorf, Helga Wretman, Nathan Baker, Anne De Vries, Matteo Giordano, Hannes Schmidt, Maxwell Simmer, James Whipple

The exhibition’s title Travelin’Light is taken from a classic Billie Holiday song. In its verses she bemoans the loss of love, yet through the repetition of this phrase “I’m travelin’ light” the singer insists she is now on coarse to creative freedom. The themes of light, both physical and spiritual, lightness of form and weight, as well as travel are manifest in this group exhibition of textile-based works.
Holiday sings, “ No one to see I’m free as the breeze, No one but me and my memories”. In organizing this exhibition the transformative nature of fabric was a primary interest. Here cloth is not only called upon to provide form (as in some regions of the world where it is primary shelter) and utilitarian function; but also as a way to direct our attention to time, memory, and culture. The artist selected for this exhibition have used textiles either directly or as one step of a working process. The result is a show of unexpected approaches to a medium with which we interact daily but don’t often have the space or cause to contemplate.

BYOB NYC

BYOB NYC

Friday, November 12, 2010, 6-10 PM
Spencer Brownstone Gallery,
39 Wooster St, New York City.

PARTICIPATING ARTISTS:

AGNES BOLT, ARTIE VIERKANT, BILLY RENNEKAMP, BRITTA THIE, BRIAN CLOSE, CALLA HENKEL & MAX PITEGOFF, CHARLES BROSKOSKI, DAMON ZUCCONI, DUNCAN MALASHOCK, DANIEL CHEW, DENA YAGO, HAYLEY SILVERMAN, JEREMY BAILEY, JESSE ENGLAND, JOEL HOLMBERG, JOHN MICHAEL BOLING, JOYCE JORDAN, KARI ALTMANN, KRIST WOOD, MAI UEDA, MARLOUS BORM, MICHELLE CEJA, MIKE RUIZ, RENE ABYTHE, RILEY HARMON, RYDER RIPPS, SARAH WEIS & ARTURO CUBACUB, TOM MOODY, TRAVESS SMALLEY, TRAVIS HALLENBECK, WOJCIECH KOSMA.

Spencer Brownstone Gallery is pleased to present the New York edition of BYOB, a one-night-exhibition exploring the medium of projection. 25 artists are invited to bring their own projectors to create a collaborative happening of moving light, sound and performance.

An acronym for Bring Your Own Beamer, the evening will propose a glimpse of computing in the future. Today the internet is confined to screens. Tomorrow information will surround us, composing our surfaces, defining our spaces, enmeshing itself with the ether. No longer simply part-and-parcel of everyday life, it will become a medium in which the everyday exists.

Featuring a generation of artists that grew up behind the screen, BYOB will have an open and dynamic structure that not only allows for spontaneity and experimentation, but also places questions concerning the formalism and engagement of the exhibition directly in the hands in the artists. A moving image is never an object, and when it is coupled with the increased flexibility of portable projection, the realm of experience quickly expands. The individual works will often overlap and sometimes even merge, producing a total environment that is more than the sum of its parts. Ultimately, this loose, free form format will mirror the chaos of the internet. Gallery visitors will stroll in a forest of browser windows much in the same way one browses sites on the web.
