Mapping
SD-X technology recognizes and responds to printed codes in much the same way a PC responds to entries on a keyboard. Some digital readers compute their location on a page covered with a grid of dots, resulting in a relatively slow response that is necessarily limited to the size of the sheet of paper and the dimensions of the grid. SD-X index mapping lays out a direct correspondence of ID codes to visual images. Not only does this make SD-X response time very quick, but it also allows enabled materials to be any size or shape, and to wrap around globes or other objects.
The mapping process brings an art file into a tool, where shapes and words in the file are outlined and filled with index codes. Codes can be used singly or in combination to collect and/or trigger a specific application response. The mapping file is used to create a fifth film for offset printing.
