spacer Feasts for Beasts

spacer Devour the facts behind why some animals only munch on meat, while others feast on fruits and plants. Step into the Animal Diner where you can choose the meal to satisfy a demanding clientele including a black bear (omnivore), beaver (herbivore) and boa constrictor (carnivore), among others. An interactive component will alert you if the meal you selected for the Diner patrons is a suitable match.

Feasts for Beasts features live animal habitats allowing visitors to identify the predators and prey among the exhibits animal menagerie. Children will have the chance to view such varied eaters as a bearded dragon, whites tree frogs, ball python, giant African millipede and Madagascar hissing cockroaches. A crittercam will allow visitors to see animal behavior when animals are hiding in their enclosures. Visitors will also be able to view feeding times, led by Museum staff, at various times throughout the week.

Animal skulls and taxidermy specimens will provide children with the chance to see how beaks and bills and teeth and tongues allow the animal kingdom to enjoy their daily meals.

The new permanent exhibit at LICM offers visitors the opportunity to meet the only insects that produce food eaten by humans as they examine the LICM Observation Beehive. Throughout the year, visitors will observe pollen being deposited, young bees emerging from their cells and learn about the division of labor inside a hive.

This exhibit is made possible by a generous gift from The Gertrude and Louis Feil Family.
