Welcome to my web site. Last year was a truly extraodinary one for me. I'm happy to say there's more brilliant news.

In April Kevin Spacey will begin filming the US remake of House of Cards, my very first book. So I'm pretty much back at the beginning, nearly twenty-five years after I started. It will take an extraordinary achievement to match Ian Richardson's original portrayal of the scheming Francis Urquhart on BBC TV, but can you think of anyone better to do just that than Mr Spacey?

And I've just published the latest Harry Jones thriller, A Sentimental Traitor. Harry has to face conspiracy, lust, blackmail and many other kinds of wickedness that originate in Brussels. There's also a bit of mass murder thrown in. I promise you won't find it dull.

In September my first play, The Turning Point, will start its UK tour. That opening night could prove to be the most exciting night of my life.

Meanwhile, I've been discovering that the House of Lords has its drawbacks. A large number of us were sitting in a room taking a break from an all-night session. We had decided to watch the opening episode of the original version of House of Cards. Everything was ready, the screen switched on, the DVD player plugged in, the disc to hand. But do you think we could figure out which remote control to use, or which button? We might have a hand in running the country, but playing a DVD was almost beyond us. Where are the teenagers when you need them?
