I am the proud recipient of the 2010 Libby Larsen Prize. This prize is given by the International Alliance of Women in Music (IAWM) from an international call for scores for a woman composer currently enrolled in school.

Inward for solo guzheng was beautifully performed by zheng virtuoso Yu-Chen Wang at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Composers Guild concert. Recordings will be uploaded soon.

I just received a 2010 ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award. It happens to be my birthday today, and I feel very lucky! The press release can be viewed here.

Fractal Excursions was performed by Brad Baumgardner at the University of Iowa Festival for Contemporary Music. This was a weekend long exchange between the composers from UMKC and University of Iowa, and it turned out very meaningful and fruitful. Kudos to Brad for executing the piece so beautifully!

I am the winner of the first newEar Annual Composers' Competition (student category). The competition results can be viewed on newEar's webpage. The prize includes $500 and guaranteed rehearsal time with the newEar musicians. newEar is Kansas City's premiere new music ensemble. I look forward to working with the awesome musicians from newEar!

Fractal Excursions, my first instrument and tape piece, was premiered by Brad Baumgardner (bass clarinet) at La Esquina (Kansas City, Mo). The piece was commissioned by KcEMA under a new commissioning program designed to encourage compositions by composers relatively new to the electronic medium.
