Forging a libretto from the writings of Joan of Arc, medieval mystics and the Bible, Richard Einhorn’s beautifully haunting minimalistic score accompanies a showing of Carl Dreyer’s 1928 silent film, The Passion of Joan of Arc, to create an emotionally raw portrayal of the life of Joan of Arc. Described as ‘cinematic’ but far from a conventional movie soundtrack, Einhorn’s oratorio melds itself into Dreyer’s images to create an increasingly tense atmosphere of ethereal horror.
