ACMG COMPETENCIES FOR THE PHYSICIAN MEDICAL GENETICIST IN THE 21st CENTURY In an effort to better define the education and training needs for medical geneticists in our rapidly evolving specialty, a multidisciplinary medical genetics workgroup led by Dr. Bruce Korf was formed to begin to identify the competencies that should be acquired by clinical geneticists who provide consultative or long-term medical genetic and genomic healthcare services. We invite review, comments and suggestions from ACMG members as this is expected to be an evolving document. We are already planning to develop a similar set of competencies for laboratory geneticists. An editorial describing the intent, development, and uses of these competencies is planned for publication in Genetics in Medicine later this year. Click here to see the report. Send comments to acmg@acmg.net with the subject line ACMG Competencies. NEW ACMG POLICY STATEMENT ON WHOLE GENOME SEQUENCING The ACMG Board of Directors released an important new Policy Statement regarding Whole Genome Sequencing on March 28, 2012 at the ACMG Annual Clinical Genomics Meeting. Please click here for the full statement. NO ACMG DUES INCREASE FOR 2012 The ACMG Board has elected to not increase membership dues for 2012. Dues increases will continue to be evaluated and adjusted, as necessary, on an annual basis. Look for your membership renewal notice via email. Membership can be renewed online by logging onto the Members Only section of the ACMG Website; it's fast, easy and secure. You can also print a 2012 renewal form online if you wish to pay by check. |
