Arguably the most anticipated camera in Nikon’s recent line up is the 36mp beast that is the D800. But it’s not been without it’s criticisms and sceptical response from some people. And if I’m honest, I was one of them! But, has handling the camera for myself changed that? In a word, YES.
** NEW VIDEO ADDED 12.03.12 – We spoke to Canon at Focus to find out a bit more on the new Canon 5D Mark III! ** Today, after three years of rumour and speculation Canon has officially announced the Canon 5D Mark III.
The third generation of Pens sees a mature family emerge along with some big changes. It’s a firm reposte to the gathering pressure from a market which has grown at spectacular speed. The E-PL3 is at the heart of the third generation, can it be both high concept and easy going at the same time?
If you already use a D3s (or D3) you’ll feel right at home with the D4. It’s like an old friend, but one that’s been to the gym. There are subtle differences in the layout and overall form factor, and in fact it was explained to me that there are only three things shared between the older D3s and the new D4; the physical sensor size, the F mount and the 100% viewfinder coverage. This morning Canon have announced their new flagship professional digital SLR – the EOS 1DX. This launch sees the amalgamation of their 1D and 1Ds lines and brings with it an “unparalleled combination of speed, resolution and image quality”.
First things first, I have been spoiled rotten having the opportunity to use a Graphics Tablet as part of my workflow (my day job) since about 2006 – so my expectations are already high for this latest instalment, well it has been a 3 year wait. My love affair with fisheye started in May 2009, when a fellow photographer offered to let me try his fisheye lens. I suspect this was a ploy on his part to get me hooked, and it worked.

Like all the Pen lenses the 40-150mm is tiny, light and perfect for travelling. Optical performance is great for such a tiddler and belies the crash diet it has been on to achieve its travel weight.
Ireland has more than its share of stunning beaches, but the sands at Murlough up the ante. Here, the ever-changing light and cloud formations of the Mountains of Mourne create one of the most spectacular backdrops of any on the island.

The Amateur Photographer Awards are voted for, and perhaps argued over, by the technical wizards of Amateur Photographer (AP) magazine – the people whose job it is to pore over every specification and to test each product to within a inch of its life.
