The Latest T-Shirt Shipment Has Arrived

September 19th, 2006 by hivelogic

Sorry to those of you who have been waiting a bit for your t-shirts to arrive (we’ve been sold out of the popular sizes), but they should be going out this week … if only our T-Shirt Quality Control Manager (pictured below) can figure out how to open the box!

The fact that the box has the word “RAILS” written on its side is purely coincidental.

Cork’d Team Picks

September 19th, 2006 by Tundro

The fine folks at California Wine Club have been sending some excellent wines to us at Tundro headquarters (delivered by helicopter to the iceberg). We’ve been tasting the wines — all from various California vineyards — and posting our picks on Cork’d. As a special promotion, Cork’d members (sign up) are able to purchase our picks at a discount directly from California Wine Club.

So really, you can’t lose: let us do the work, we’ll pick a few wines we thought were great, then you can buy them at a special discount. We love it when a plan comes together! Just check out our picks on your Cork’d homepage (when you’re signed in).

Web-Savvy Wine

September 11th, 2006 by Dan Cederholm

spacer While popping the cork out of a (surprisingly good) bottle of HRM Rex Goliath Giant 47 Pound Rooster Cabarnet Sauvignon over the weekend, I immediately noticed the vineyard’s web address printed down the side of the cork. A “web-savvy winemaker” I thought to myself. And it got me thinking: what other web-centric wineries are out there? Stormhoek comes to mind. Any others?

New robot can identify wines, cheeses

September 5th, 2006 by Dan Cederholm

We can only hope that the new wine-tasting robot signs up for a Cork’d account:

Researchers at NEC System Technologies and Mie University have designed a robot that can taste — an electromechanical sommelier able to identify dozens of different wines, cheeses and hors d’oeuvres.

At the end of the robot’s left arm is an infrared spectrometer. When objects are placed up against the sensor, the robot fires off a beam of infrared light. The reflected light is then analyzed in real time to determine the object’s chemical composition.

Cork’d Founders in Imbibe Magazine

August 28th, 2006 by Dan Cederholm

spacer We’re both flattered and thrilled at being featured “Wine Zealots” in the latest issue of Imbibe Magazine. The new issue is showing up on newsstands now, and highlights various people doing cool things in the beverage industry.

We think the interview sums up the uniqueness of Cork’d and it’s mission to, as Dan B. puts it, “take some of the snobbishness out of wine”.

Cheers to Imbibe for recognizing us, as we’ve been big fans of the magazine’s first few issues. It’s a publication that shares the Cork’d vibe, and covers all things wine, beer, spirits, coffee and anything else that tastes good.

Sub-Zero Wine

August 18th, 2006 by Dan Cederholm

You may have noticed a special sponsorship on Cork’d this month. Sub-Zero has launched a new site dedicated to wine, with great info on the proper ways to store wine, as well as tips and advice from wine experts. Additionally, they’ve also launched the Sub-Zero Wine Blog which provides “insights and advice on all things wine” from a variety of authors.

They’re off to a great start, and we’re thrilled to have such knowledgable sponsors.
