When Did Science Become Something You 'Vote' For?
I will be on with host George Noory to discuss the politics involved with today's science. No, not 'political science', but science which has been hijacked by politicians. Personally, I find it 'heart-breaking' to witness what I have been participating in since 1995 when I began the Earth Changes TV television show; later in 2002, this changed to a bi-weekly radio show where I would interview "live" leading scientists from all parts of the world.

Jupiter Helps Halley's Comet Give More Spectacular Meteor Displays
Halley's comet orbits the Sun every 75-76 years on average. As its nucleus approaches the Sun, it heats up and releases gas and dust that form the spectacular tail. This outgassing leaves a trail of debris around the orbit. When the Earth crosses Halley's path, twice per orbit, dust particles (meteoroids) burn up in the Earth's atmosphere and we see meteor showers: the Orionids in October and the Eta Aquariids in May.

Using Lasers to Deflect Asteroids
Research has unearthed the possibility of using a swarm of relatively small satellites flying in formation and cooperatively firing solar-powered lasers onto an asteroid - this would overcome the difficulties associated with current methods that are focused on large unwieldy spacecraft.

The Earliest Stages of Planet Formation
The most dominant dust species in circumstellar material are thought to be oxygen-rich silicates (typically minerals containing magnesium and iron as well as silicon and oxygen). Besides coming in a range of shapes and sizes, these grains can either have a crystalline (that is, highly ordered) structure, or its opposite, an amorphous structure.

Meteor Activity Outlook for March 24-30, 2012
During this period the moon reaches its first quarter phase on Friday March 30th. At that time the moon will be located ninety degrees east of the sun and will set near 0100 local daylight time as seen from the mid-northern latitudes. This weekend the waxing crescent moon will only be visible during the early evening hours and will not interfere with meteor observations.

Runaway Planets Zoom at a Fraction of Light-Speed
Seven years ago, astronomers boggled when they found the first runaway star flying out of our Galaxy at a speed of 1.5 million miles per hour. The discovery intrigued theorists, who wondered: If a star can get tossed outward at such an extreme velocity, could the same thing happen to planets?
