Peer review is a way of assessing the quality of scientific ideas by subjecting them to independent scrutiny by qualified experts (peers). Funders use peer review when choosing what research to fund and scientific journals use it when deciding whether a research paper is worth publishing.
Process
At AMRC we believe that peer review is at the heart of excellent medical research. One of our membership criteria is that charities use peer review; their processes are assessed when they apply for membership, and we ensure this quality is maintained by carrying out a peer review audit every five years.
Principles
AMRC has five principles of peer review: accountability, balance, independence, rotation and impartiality.
