Material history and heritage documents are the portal to the past for any heritage institution. These items are what is studied and interpreted to make the past come alive. At the same time, they are also the anchor which lends credibility to the stories we tell.

Museum Collection
The artefact collection at Grey Roots is composed of a diverse group of objects, and reflects the history of Grey County from pre-contact until present day. Artefacts that are not currently on exhibit are stored in environmentally-controlled storage areas. Individual artefacts are stored in acid-free, chemically inert material and in a manner that best supports the specific requirements of the item.

Archives
The Archives is now home to over 500 collections which compose 3,600 linear feet of material. Each collection is accessioned, inventoried, entered into our database, cleaned and rehoused. We also aim to make our collections further accessible through finding aids and endeavour for them to contribute to exhibit preparation and, from time to time, be objects of exhibition as well.
