The National Guard Association of Michigan needs your help! Michigan’s National Guard is under attack! The President’s FY13 Budget proposes to severely cut the Michigan Air National Guard by one third. Join us in trying to stop these cuts for Michigan and our Nation.

Our Goal: Stop All Cuts to Air National Guard Missions and Manpower until the Congressional Value Study, from the Guard Empowerment Act, is complete. We are asking Air Force Leadership, why cut Air Force capabilities to make budget when you can move missions and manpower into the National Guard to make budget, preserve capabilities, and make the Air Force Stronger than ever?

MI National Guardsmen: 12,000 Soldiers and Airmen serve the Governor and the President The Threat: The FY13 Presidential Budget proposes to eliminate 1/3 of the Michigan Air National Guard. That translates to cutting 652 jobs, eliminating a Squadron of 24 A-10C Fighter Aircraft, and eliminating a Squadron of 4 C-27J Guard Airlift Aircraft for a combined negative economic impact to Michigan of over $300 Million. MI Jobs: Michigan is already ranked 50th of 50 States in DoD employees per 1k population. We are Dead Last before we lose 652 more jobs. Michigan unemployment is currently at 9.5%. Most of the men and women that received this news of a “Pink Slip” upon return from a combat deployment to Afghanistan where they spent Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years without their families, fighting for Michigan and America. MI Economy: Michigan economy is barely coming out of the gutter and we are about to be hit with a > $300 Million negative impact. 652 families from all over Michigan will be selling homes and not spending money in community. DoD contracts will no longer be available for bid in Mount Clemens and Battle Creek. Michigan’s businesses will be losing a highly trained and experienced workforce as these families move to other states. Without a Fighter Squadron in Michigan, our state will be postured to lose the Grayling Air Gunnery Range, the Alpena CRTC and the best supersonic training airspace east of the Mississippi, and Selfridge ANGB in future Base Reallocation and Closure actions. MI Emergency Response: National Guardsmen are trained to deploy into the community with the latest technology in vehicles, communication, and equipment immediately in response to natural disasters, terrorist attacks, and manmade disasters. C-27 Guard Airlift will be stripped from the Governor of Michigan to respond to our citizens and to help worldwide. The A-10C aircraft come with a Mission Support Group filled with capabilities to respond within the community and further serve our citizens by hosting a combat capability at half the cost of active component. The Solution: The FY13 President’s Budget proposes to cut capability to meet budget requirements. There is a way to keep all the capabilities of the Total Air Force and make budget… Move wartime missions, equipment, and personnel into the Guard & Reserve components to preserve capability and experience. The Air National Guard performs 35% of the mission on 6% of the budget. Mission Capabilities are maintained in the National Guard at 50% of the cost. Our Nation was built on a Militia Construct to reduce government spending while maintaining a full National Defense Capability. The National Guard has been protecting America since 1636.
