The Records Room Department of the Rensselaer County Clerk's office is the main recording center for deeds, mortgages and other land records in Rensselaer County. The Records Room is also the main office for selling NYS hunting and fishing licenses, passports, pistol permits and amendments. The Records Room is the central recording office for most court records including mechanics liens, judgments, foreclosures, Supreme and County court cases, divorces, veterans' discharges and other miscellaneous documents. The record room is also the central registry for all Rensselaer County Notary Publics and Commissioners of Deeds. The Records Room is open from 8:30am-5:00pm every weekday except Thursdays when the hours are 8:30am-7:00pm.

The Department of Motor Vehicles provides original and renewal vehicle registrations, driver's licenses and learner permits. DMV is responsible for issuing conditional and restricted licenses of rental vehicles, livery, ambulances and buses. DMV provides non-drivers license identification cards as well as being a sponsor of the "Moto Voter" program. DMV is open from 8:30am-4:15pm every weekday except for Thursdays when the hours are 8:30am-7:15pm.

DMV operates three satellite offices for public convenience. The East Greenbush DMV satellite office is open on Mondays from 9:00am-3:00pm at the East Greenbush Town Hall at 225 Columbia Turnpike. The Schodack DMV satellite office is open on Tuesdays from 9:00am-3:00pm at the Schodack Town Hall at 1777 Columbia Turnpike. The Hoosick Falls DMV satellite office is open on Wednesdays from 10:00am-2:00pm at the John J. Murphy Senior Center.
