A Little Bluff House History

Steeped in history, Bluff House was the first and is now the oldest Resort in the Bahamas’ Out Islands and Bluff House will turn the grand age of 60 very soon.

Bluff House began in the early 1950s as the private home of Pearce and Kitty Coady and as many of the traditional English Victorian and American Colonial homes of its day, it was a wonderful gathering place for a unique mix of interesting and cosmopolitan people. Pearce and Kitty Coady frequently hosted boaters from all over the world who were looking for a comfortable night on land, good company, excellent food and genuine hospitality. Over time, Pearce and Kitty added to the Bluff House property so they could accommodate more guests eager to experience the stunning Bluff House setting and the Coady’s warm ‘make you feel right at home’ welcoming.

The Davies family owned the Bluff house from 1978 to 1986. Melissa and Leslie Davies, 24 and 25 years old respectively, ran Bluff House until it was sold to Martin who owned and operated it from 1986 to 1995.

Fast forward to 1995 when the Bluff House was purchased by Roger and Susan Phillips. Roger and Susan offered guests their warm and gracious hospitality for 17 years. Roger and Susan owned and operated The Bluff House until June 2011 when it was purchased by a group of investors headed by Roger’s nephew, Ian Phillips.  In keeping tradition and the spirit of Bluff House alive, this diverse group will take Bluff House into the future to a whole new level of customer service and resort amenities.  All of us take great pride in Bluff House where guests will always be treated like family and a very special "Guest of our House.”

Many have described Bluff House as the most special piece of property in Abaco. Perched atop the very highest point on the island of Green Turtle Cay in Abaco, Bahamas, Bluff House Beach Resort and Marina sits on 12 lush acres of palms and pines as well as beautiful private white sand beach. The Bluff House property is easily accessible by boat or ferry from either the Sea of Abaco or White Sound Harbour. The island of Green Turtle Cay is an explorer’s dream with tropical foliage surrounding trails opening to talcum powder beaches or small cliffs/bluffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
