Chancellors and Directors
The UA System universities and two-year colleges each have a chancellor as chief executive officer. The titles of the leaders of other affiliated UA System units are indicated below. The chancellors and unit leaders are responsible for enforcement of policies and procedures, budgets, regulations and carrying out decisions of the Board of Trustees.
Universities
Chancellor G. David Gearhart
University of Arkansas, Fayetteville
Dr. G. David Gearhart became the chancellor of the University of Arkansas on July 1, 2008, following 10 years of service to the university as vice chancellor for university advancement. Previously he was senior vice president of Penn State University, during which time he was named a Fulbright Scholar, studying at Oxford University in Oxford, England.

Chancellor Joel E. Anderson
University of Arkansas at Little Rock
Dr. Joel E. Anderson became chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2003 after previously serving as provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs and founding dean of the graduate school at UALR.

Chancellor Daniel W. Rahn
University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences
As the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences chancellor, Dr. Dan Rahn leads Arkansas’s only academic health sciences center, which encompasses patient care, education, research and outreach resources at locations across the state. He became the fourth chancellor of UAMS Nov. 1, 2009. He previously served as the president of the Medical College of Georgia and the senior vice chancellor for health and medical programs for the University System of Georgia.

Chancellor H. Jack Lassiter
University of Arkansas at Monticello
Dr. Jack Lassiter became the 11th chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Monticello on July 1, 2004. A native of Greenville, Texas, Lassiter first joined UAM in 1977 as director of the Learning Development Center. After two years as dean of college and student services at Wharton County (Texas) Junior College, he returned to UAM in 1980 as vice chancellor for university relations and student services, beginning a 17-year stay on the Monticello campus. In 1993, he was named vice chancellor for academic affairs and student services.

Chancellor Paul Beran
University of Arkansas at Fort Smith
Dr. Paul B. Beran was named chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith on July 1, 2006, four years after the institution achieved university status after being a two-year school since 1928. Since his appointment, Dr. Beran has worked to facilitate the development of more majors and more opportunity for students resulting in growth of 12.7 percent in student headcount over the last five years.

Chancellor Lawrence A. Davis, Jr.
University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff
Dr. Lawrence A. Davis, Jr. has served as chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff since November 5, 1991. He is the second in his family to serve in the position after his father was president of the university, formerly named Agricultural, Mechanical and Normal College, from 1943-72. Davis previously served as dean of the School of Science and Technology and dean of arts and sciences at UAPB.

Chancellor Steven F. Murray
Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas
Dr. Steven Murray has served as chancellor of Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas since 2003. Since joining the college in 1980, he has served as an English instructor, department head, division dean, vice chancellor for instruction, executive vice chancellor and chancellor. He holds a B.A. and M.A. in English and a doctorate in higher education administration.

Chancellor Chris Thomason
University of Arkansas Community College at Hope
Chris Thomason became chancellor of the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope on August 1, 2008. He had previously served on the UACCH Foundation Board and as an adjunct faculty member for the college. Under Thomason’s leadership, UACCH’s student enrollment and graduation rate hit record highs in the last two years.

University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville
Deborah Frazier was named chancellor at the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville in May 2007. She began her teaching career as an accounting instructor at Gateway Vocation Technical School in 1987. During her tenure, she has served as a division chair of business, technology and public service, vice chancellor of academic affairs and vice chancellor for learning and student services.

Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas
Steve Cole has served as chancellor at Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas since 2010. He began his career at the college in 1997 as a member of the business faculty. He was named division chair of Adult, Distance, and Secondary Education in 2001, division chair of Business in 2003, and vice chancellor and dean of academics in 2007.

Chancellor Larry D. Davis
University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton
Dr. Larry Davis was appointed chancellor of the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton in September 2010. Previously, he served six years as vice chancellor for academic affairs at Arkansas State University-Newport. Prior to that, Davis worked for over 30 years as a math instructor, math/science supervisor, general studies department chair and division chair over business and general studies at Oklahoma State University-Okmulgee, a two-year technical branch campus of Oklahoma State University.

Dr. Mark Cochran was appointed vice president for agriculture of the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture on January 4, 2011. He is responsible for leading the university’s coordinated agriculture program including the Cooperative Extension Service and the Agriculture Experiment Station.

Arkansas Archeological Survey
Dr. Thomas J. Green has been director of the Arkansas Archeological Survey (AAS) since 1992. AAS is a statewide research, public service and educational institution with 11 research stations. Prior to joining AAS, Green was the Idaho State Archaeologist and deputy state historic preservation officer where he was in charge of Section 106 review and National Register programs.

Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts
Dr. Janet Hugo was named director of the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts in 2006 after serving five years as the dean of academic affairs. She earned a B.S. in rehabilitation education from Penn State University, an M.S. in gifted studies from Mississippi University for Women, and she holds a Ph.D. in technology and education from Mississippi State University.

Dean James L. “Skip” Rutherford III
University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service
Skip Rutherford has served as dean of the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service since 2006. Prior to joining the Clinton School, Rutherford was executive vice president of Cranford Johnson Robinson Woods, one of the region’s largest communications firms. In addition, he served as chairman of the board of the William J. Clinton Foundation from 1997-2006. From 1997 until it opened in 2004, Rutherford also supervised the planning for the Clinton Presidential Library.
