Department of Professional Training

spacer

This department contains our core curriculum. Graduation from IAA occurs upon completing and passing with 70% or better the 7 required classes in Module 1: Natal Studies Module and the 6 required classes + 2 electives of your choice in Module 2: Diploma Module.

This is a Professional Training Department, so it is very important that you have a fundamental knowledge of astrology before enter this Department. That means that must have you an understanding of the signs, houses and planets; what planets go with the what signs; if they are Fire, Earth, Air and Water; and if they are Cardinal, Fixed or Mutable.

Upon completion and passage of the Natal Studies Module you will receive a certificate of proficiency in natal astrology. Upon completion of the Diploma Module you will receive a diploma and the internationally recognized designation Dipl.IAA (former graduates hold Dipl.OCA) PLUS benefits of certification with the following organizations: NCGR and ISAR. Additionally some of our courses transfer as credits to Kepler College and some of theirs transfer to us.

IAA's Audio Visual Classrooms

Classes meet once a week for 1.5 hours in real time from your home pc. You will be provided with a link for GoToMeeting where the instructor will share his/her desktop with class topic material and astrology software for chart discussions on the topic at hand. You will participate in class with your instructor and classmates via microphone and speakers.

Homework & Grades

You will be using your chart and the chart of three others for your homework. After each class, you will be expected to email a word document of your chart delineations on the weekly topic 48 hours before your next class meets. Your instructor is expected to have it back to you before the next class. At the end of each course is a final exam most of which are taken live in the IAA chat style class room. The instructor types in the question and you type back your answers in a private chat window. Grades are determined as follows: 1/3 homework, 1/3 final exam, 1/3 class participation. You need 70% or better on the final exam and overall to pass each course.

Time & Cost

Natal Studies Module: IAA has 5 nine week semesters per year. You can complete the seven courses in this module in 1.5 years. If you want to complete it in one year, you may email IAA's Education Director about the possibility of doubling up some classes. The cost is $420 per 9 week class ($395 if you meet the early registration deadline) + a $75 administrative fee. That is $2940 for the entire module + $525 in administrative fees BUT if you register before the early registration deadline each semester, the cost is $2765 + $525 total administrative fees.

Diploma Module: You can complete this module in less than 2 years. There are 3 required nine week courses: DPL01, DPL02 & DPL03 and 3 required fourteen week courses: History, Traditional, & Ethics. The cost of the required classes (using early registration prices) is $3,135. Then choose from 2 of 4 elective classes that vary in length from seven to nine weeks: Midpoints ($350), Mundane ($400), and Chinese ($420), &/or Vedic ($420). The $75 administrative fee for 8 classes in this module total $600.

Book Cost: Course eBook prices vary depending if you want them in download or CD version and they come with a student discount. The link for books not authored or published by IAA will take you to Amazon where you may be able to find them used at a discount. Required books are located at the bottom of each syllabus along with supplemental reading suggested books.

Certification Benefits for Graduates

It is essential, since IAA is a certifying body, that students demonstrate the ability to communicate their knowledge vitally and effectively. The homework assignments, each course’s final and most importantly, each Module's final place special emphasis on thoroughness and articulation.

Under an agreement with the National Council for Geocosmic Research (NCGR), graduation from IAA's Professional Training Department will qualify the graduate to apply to NCGR for their Level IV certifying process. Completing IAA's Diploma Module curriculum eliminates the need to take NCGR's Level I, II, and III certification examinations. These examinations are the first three levels in NCGR's four-level program leading to formal certification in astrology. Additionally if you hold NCGR levels I &/or II of certification, you are eligible to transfer credits for certain classes in our Natal Studies Module. Contact IAA's Education Director for details.

An agreement with International Society of Astrological Research (ISAR) is fixed so that IAA graduates may go directly to the testing for their C.A.P. certification after taking the ISAR Consulting Skills seminar.

Available Scholarships

ISAR offers Professional Training students scholarships after they have successfully completed one (1) year of study. There are three ISAR Scholarships available each year for IAA students.

Credit Transfers

Under an agreement with the Kepler College of Astrological Arts and Sciences, students who have full graduation from IAA's Professional Training Department, may be eligible to test out of certain courses. Likewise, graduates of Kepler College of Astrological Arts and Sciences may be eligible to transfer certain courses to IAA. Please contact IAA's Education Director for details.

Other Astrology Schools: If you have taken courses at another astrology school that offers certification of completion and wonder if any courses transfer to IAA you must contact IAA's Education Director with the following information: a copy of your certificate, the syllabus of the program, your transcript containing homework grade and final grade, the web address of the school. After initial review by IAA's Education Director if credit transfer seems possible, your request will undergo a final review by IAA's Board of Directors. Your credit transfer approval will be subject to taking the final exam of the classes you are transferring to prove proficiency. The cost to transfer credits and sit for the exam is $200 + $75 admin fee. If you do not pass with 90% or better your $200 can be applied toward taking the class. No refunds will be given.

Life experience credits: If you have been practicing astrology for a long time but have no formal education you may be eligible for some life experience credit transfers. Your job is to look over the syllabus of our courses and decide where you are proficient enough to pass with 90% or better. Then contact IAA's Education Director to request the exam. The cost to transfer credits and sit for the exam is $200 + $75 admin fee. If you do not pass with 90% or better your $200 can be applied toward taking the class. No refunds will be given.

Student Testimonials

This is what one of our graduates had to say about her learning experience...

"This was my first venture into on-line education -- it has been nothing but positive -- and almost my first exposure to astrology. I have been very impressed with the way Ena has created and managed OCA [IAA]. I've told her that in my opinion she is second only to Maria Montessori as an educator. And of course, she is a first-rate astrologer. I continue to be surprised at the intellectual rigor of serious astrology and the brilliant minds engaged in the practice of astrology. I am so proud to be one!"

Here is a current student's thoughts on learning here at IAA...

"This has been a great learning experience...I'm impressed by seeing how much I've grown in astrological knowledge and in self-growth...I find the instructors very knowledgeable, very knowledgable... [Too] they're always available to help!"

The curriculum has been designed to be taken sequentially; however, if you feel you can test out of a course, or you feel you would like to take more courses at once, you may do so. OCA [IAA] is sensitive to the diverse needs of you, our students, and to the time committed to pursuing your astrological education. Fast tracking is possible and we will do everything in our power to help you finish your education as quickly as you are able. To discuss this further, please contact OCA [IAA]'s Education Board. Credit for previously acquired knowledge is conditional to obtaining a passing grade on an individually administered exam.
