HOW DOES THIS WORK?

All Democrats in Fulton County, GA are invited to participate in the activities and events of the Fulton Democrats. The best place to start is by attending a monthly meeting or by signing up for our mailing list. However, if you’d like to become a voting member of the body, the process is a little more involved.

Voting members of the Fulton County Democratic Committee (FCDC) are called Post Seat Holders. Holding a Post Seat empowers you to vote on important business administered at the monthly FCDC Business Meetings and in party elections conducted by the FCDP (such as those for Officers and State Committee Members). As well, holding a Post Seat qualifies you to run for some of these elected positions.

There are currently six available Post Seats for every State House District in Fulton County and two At-Large Districts. If there is a vacant seat in your district, or an At-Large District, you may apply to fill it until the next even year General Primary Election. Post Seats 1-3 are elected in Presidential year General Primary Elections, Post Seats 4-6 are Elected in Gubernatorial year General Primary Elections. Post Seat terms are for four years, or until the next applicable General Primary Election.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR A POST SEAT?

First, you must be registered to vote in, and a resident of, Fulton County Georgia. Next, make sure you know which House District you live in. To find your Georgia House District, go to the Poll Locator on the Georgia Secretary of State’s website. If there is a vacant seat in your district (see list below), you may apply to fill it until the next applicable General Primary Election.

During the week of Candidate Qualifying (April in Presidential Election years), you may qualify to run for Post Seats 1, 2 or 3 in the General Primary Election. During the week of Candidate Qualifying (April in Gubernatorial Election years), you may qualify to run for Post Seats 4, 5 or 6 in the General Primary Elections. Your name will appear on the Democratic General Primary ballot in your House District or, if you choose to run At-Large, will appear on all Democratic Primary ballots in Fulton County.

WHAT IF ALL POST SEATS IN MY DISTRICT ARE OCCUPIED?

Candidates may qualify to run whether or not the Post Seat they seek is currently occupied. Incumbent Post Seat Holders must qualify to run for re-election every four years.

WHAT IF I MISSED CANDIDATE QUALIFYING?

If there is a vacant seat in your district (see list below), you may apply to fill it until the next applicable General Primary Election. Simply attend the next Fulton County Democratic Party Business Meeting (time and location info can be found on the front page of this site), and fill out a one page application. The application fee for Post Seats is $35, payable to the Fulton County Democratic Party. If your address and voter registration information are in order, you will be voted in at the following month’s meeting. If you have any questions about this process, or to request an application, please contact us.
