Richard Diebenkorn: The Ocean Park Series
feb 26, 2012 - may 27, 2012 Richard Diebenkorn: The Ocean Park Series is the first major museum exhibition to explore the artists most celebrated series created from 1967 to 1988. Recognized as a leading West Coast Abstract Expressionist in the 1950s, Diebenkorn turned his attention to figurative painting in 1955 and achieved equal success in this alternate style. In 1967 he returned to abstraction, and during the next twenty years would forge one of the most compelling and masterful bodies of work of the 20th century: the Ocean Park series. Featuring approximately 80 worksincluding paintings, prints, drawings, and collagesthis exhibition captures Diebenkorns practice of working simultaneously in diverse media and provides audiences with the first opportunity to explore the complexity of Diebenkorns artistic and aesthetic concerns in this seminal body of work. The exhibition will be accompanied by a 250-page, fully illustrated catalogue, available here, and will tour to the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.

Jack Goldstein x 10,000
jun 24, 2012 - sep 9, 2012 This exhibition is the first American retrospective of Jack Goldstein (19452003), a central figure in Postmodernist discourse of the 1970s and 1980s. Goldsteins oeuvre developed over the years in an unusual breadth of media, from sculpture, performance, and film, to photography, records of sound effects, paintings, and aphorisms. The exhibition includes two immersive installations, 20 of Goldsteins films produced from 1971 to 1983, a representative selection of 22 paintings demonstrating their thematic breadth, and a selection of 18 records with listening stations. The exhibition concludes with Goldsteins Aphorisms (1982), Totems (198890), and other selected writings produced between 1982 and 2002. 10,000 x Jack Goldstein is accompanied by a 250-page, fully illustrated catalogue that includes an artists project by James Welling, and texts by Philipp Kaiser, Douglas Crimp, John Kelsey, Alexander Dumbadze, and Meg Cranston. Given Goldsteins legacy and his increasing relevance to younger artists, a retrospective of his work is long overdue and essential to the larger re-evaluation of post-1960s American art. The exhibition will tour nationally.
Jack Goldstein x 10,000 is organized by the Orange County Museum of Art with guest curator Philipp Kaiser.
This exhibition is made possible by a grant from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc.
Additional support is provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, Barbara and Victor L. Klein, and Karyn D. Kohl.
Lead sponsor of the museums 50th Anniversary is Cartier
