Gold Coast Chamber Players

April 15, 2012  -  12 noon to 2pm

We are very pleased to present our third season of La Belle Vie at the Legion of Honor in collaboration with the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (FAMSF) and Classical Revolution. This popular chamber music series, held in the Rodin Gallery of the Legion of Honor, will be on the first and third Sundays of each month, from January to June, 2012. Concerts are from 12:00pm-2:00pm — Rodin Gallery (Gallery 10) — and free of charge (with admission to the museum).

The performing ensembles are either Affiliates of SFFCM or Musical Grant Program recipients, and represent the tremendous diversity of musical talent right here in the Bay Area.  Information about the performing ensembles for the third season is in the process of being finalized, but the dates are as follows:

Classical Revolution ensembles - First Sunday of the Month:

January 8: Revolution Quartet (Debussy, Ravel, Mozart, and Beethoven) - February 5: Revolution Quartet (Mozart, Beethoven, Dvorak) - March 4:  Classical Revolution Players (Vivaldi Birthday Concert) - April 1: Indre Viskontas, soprano + Special Guests (Tosti, Mendelssohn) - May 6: Musical Art Quintet - June 3: Stevan Pasero + Musical Art Quintet

San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music ensembles - Third Sunday of the Month:

January 22: Eos Ensemble - February 19: Ariel Ensemble - March 18: Vocallective - April 15: Gold Coast Chamber Players - May 13: Trinity Alps Chamber Players - June 17: Left Coast Ensemble

The concerts are presented in an informal setting. Audiences can stand or sit, come and go as they please, enjoy all or part of the performance and then move on to visit the museum galleries.  In this exciting collaboration, SFFCM, and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco have asked the performers to create programming that is inspired by the Legion's upcoming exhibit, thus bringing together the visual and performing arts in a public setting to stimulate the imagination and enhance the  experience of visitors at the museum.

The Cult of Beauty: The Victorian Avant-Garde, 1860-1900. (February 18 - June 17, 2012)  will be the first major exhibition to explore the unconventional creativity of the British Aesthetic Movement, tracing the evolution of this movement from a small circle of progressive artists and poets, through the achievements of innovative painters and architects, to its broad impact on fashion and the middle-class home. The Cult of Beauty showcases the entirety of the Aesthetic Movement's output, celebrating the startling beauty and variety of creations by masters as diverse as artists Dante Gabriel Rossetti, James McNeill Whistler, and Edward Burne-Jones and designers E.W. Godwin, William Morris and Christopher Dresser.
