Mutilation Rites, the self-professed “filthy black metal” band from Brooklyn described by MetalSucks as “evil as fuck,” have unveiled the first taste of their Prosthetic Records debut, Empyrean, which will be released on May 22.

Visit Pitchfork now to stream the track “Realms of Dementia,” which they describe as “a song that brings to mind late-period Darkthrone vomiting the youthful version of themselves onto the crowd at a filthy DIY space,” and then visit the Prosthetic Store to pre-order the album, the cover art for which appears above.

Earlier this month, Mutilation Rites — now featuring Ryan Jones (Today Is The Day, Wetnurse) on bass — kicked off a three-week tour that will take them to and from South By Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, where they will perform five times over four days. Afterwards, they’ll play in Dallas alongside Alcest and do a week’s worth of shows with Hull. A complete list of their remaining tour dates appears below.

Founded by Justin Ennis (drums, ex-Tombs) and Michael Dimmitt (guitars) in 2009, Mutilation Rites has established a grass-roots following via several underground tours and a split 7″ with Batillus that was released last year. The group recorded Emyprean at Developing Nations in Baltimore, MB with Kevin Bernsten (Triac). For more information on the band, visit their Facebook.
