Welcome to Wisconsin Kubb. This is where the U.S. National Kubb Championship was born. It is also the home of Kubbnation Magazine and the Dallas Oktoberfest Kubb Tournament (only six-person team tournament in the US).

The yard game kubb was born in Sweden and is played throughout Sverige. Kubb is now played around the world with tournaments in Europe and the U.S. The two goals of Wisconsin Kubb are to unite and foster better and more meaningful relationships in our communities and spread Swedish and Nordic culture.

Kubb comes from a land where summer nights are mystical and merge with the mornings, and cloudless winter days, with the sun low in the horizon, are blinding, bitter, and at the same time agonizingly short. Many wonder about the origins of this Swedish game, also known as Viking Chess. Where in Sweden were the first throwing pins thrown at a kubb? Were the Vikings the first ones to play kubb? Obviously, the answers to those questions are unknown. However, it is easy to imagine the first games of kubb being played with firewood or perhaps scrap wood from a new barn. Perhaps the first kubb pitch was set up in the deep, dark, stone covered, and troll-filled forests of Småland. Or, perhaps the first kubb game was played in a wind swept grassy area of Gotland or Öland in sight of the raw and relentless Baltic Sea. Regardless, kubb, like many of our ancestors, has traveled thousands of miles from a distant and magical land, crossed an ocean, and now resides in Wisconsin.

Kubb is for everyone. Let’s toss some lumber.

If you are looking to play some winter kubb, Minnesota Kubb is hosting the largest winter kubb tournament ever in the U.S. on February 04. It is part of a ski race event in Minneapolis with 1,000s of people. Remember, tournaments are just one big kubb party.

Over the past few months, we have worked hard with Des Moines Kubb to update the U.S. Championship rules. These rules follow the Kubb World Championship. They are now available. One minor change is that there is only one initial toss at the king to determine what team picks if they go first or pick what side they want. This is what they do at the Kubb WC. A big thanks to DMK.

This evening, the Eau Claire City Council passed the resolution. Eau Claire, WI is officially the Kubb Capital of North America. Thank you to everyone.
