Sunfish
As a
dealer we sell more sunfish than all other boats put
together. Why? Three main reasons: Ease of
use, great value, great racing
Usable:
Easy to rig, and low maintenance - the
sunfish is just so
usable - pull up the halyard and of you go! Sail to
someone's dock or to another beach - just drop the
halyard and go ashore for lunch. Travelling around
- if you don't have a trailer just put it on your
roofrack - you can even just about get it in the back of
a truck. Equally suitable for two ten
year olds to sail together or a person of any age from
around 12 to 80 to sail alone. Light enough to get
in and out of the water with ease.
Value for money:
priced way below the laser it is great value for money
and very tough and long lasting. Many of our
customers are replacing their first sunfish after 40
years of use. Leave the boat lying around a field
of a dock for years - clean the mold off, buy a new
sail, and off you go. No softening of the hull or
deck that happens in other boats.
Great Racing:
Satisfying enough to race competitively - go to a
sunfish championship and see 15 year old girls, 22
year old college kids, top laser sailors of all ages,
and 80 year old sailors all racing against each other.
You get all the thrills of good racing in heavy winds
without having to be a super athlete to be competitive -
easier on your back and your knees than the laser, and
great supportive atmosphere among the sailors. |

Optimist
The
Optimist is the international children's boat - designed
specifically for children. It is a pint sized boat
that a six year old can sit inside and feel safe while
at the other end of the childhood sailing spectrum the
12 year old experienced racer can sail the boat in
extreme conditions, knowing how to set up his or her
boat for waves and for heavy weather. There are almost a
million Optimists around the world and there are many
Optimist builders - the super strict measurements
introduced in 1995 makes it impossible for one builder
to be better than another - boats are identical down to
the millimeter. You can however get the edge on
your competitors by the sails and spars that you choose.
Laser Performance were importing Optimists from China
but last year decided to build their own once again and
have named their boat the Optimist Vapor. When you
choose a Vapor you are choosing a boat that was built in
Rhode Island by craftsmen who have been building boats
for years for one of the biggest small boat manufacturer
in the world.

Laser Bahia
Looking
for a boat that you can take your kids out on with you?
And maybe your dog too? This is the one you have
been waiting for! We tested the Bahia recently and
found it it be a lovely boat. Very stable and nice
performance, just exciting enough to be fun, lovely
upwind, a gennaker for some downwind speed. This
boat can be sailed by your kids and their friends
once they know enough, or by two adults and neither kid
nor dog, if you want to make your own escape for a
while. And very good value too.

Laser & Laser Radial
Everyone has heard of a laser by now - designed by Bruce
Kirby in as a car toppable boat, the great performance
and relative simplicity of the boat made it grow into on
the biggest classes in the world ( after the Optimist of
course!) and it makes up two classes in the Olympics
with the Laser for men and the Laser Radial for women.
But if
you are looking at this website you probably already
know all of this and all you have to do is decide which
rig configuration you want and which equipment level
(upgrades) you might want.
The
Laser comes in three rig configurations, the Laser 4.7,
the Radial and the full rig, allowing for all weight
ranges and sizes. Roughly, the 4.7 is intended for young
sailors weighing about 100 -120 lbs , the Radial is for
sailors weighing around 120-160 lbs, and the full rig
needs a good 160-190 lbs to keep it balanced in heavy
weather. But, here is the magic part - only
the sail and the lower mast varies - everything else on
the boat remains the same. So you buy a 4.7
for your child - just buy a full sail and a full lower
mast for yourself and you now have two different rigs
for the same boat. Or your 18 year old son
needs a radial rig, but he might yet get big and tall -
just buy him the full rig when that time comes.
