SS12 Campaign: Diesel Torches Barbie Dollshouse

30 Mar

spacer

I went to the Diesel autumn/winter 2012 press day yesterday, all about coloured jeans, gorgeous knits and huge bags *I will put piccies on  my Facebook soon*, but while there I spotted the current spring/summer 2012 campaign by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, ‘Portraits for Successful Living’, and I was shocked to see them burning Barbie!!!

OK, I am being a little dramatic but what a weird campaign, leggy models torching dollshouses, a denim clad model canoodling a robot, another one trampling on a potted plant, and there is even one playing peek-a-boo in a safe. I get that Diesel is a little bit out there with their advertising but has anyone else spotted these adverts and thought WTF is going on???

The one I do love however has to be the two leggy models doing tug-of-war, those bleached blue flares are HOT!!!

I’ve put the rest of the campaign images on my Facebook page – let me know what you think of Diesel’s latest campaign?

My Style: When The Sun Shines – Only Bright Will Do

28 Mar

spacer

I am loving this mini heatwave that we are having at the moment, it has however screwed up my wardrobe, so when Idealo asked me to pick out a dress perfect for spring I choose this beauty from Whistles that I have had my eye on for a while. Even with the sun shine it isn’t scorching hot so going for a dress with three-quarter sleeves is a good move, and by choosing one in a bright colour you can work the transition from spring to summer in style.

This Whistles dress seems to the bloggers uniform I have seen so many of my friends wearing it, I think it has something to do with it coming in tons of different colours, that it costs just under the £100 mark, and best of all this textured cotton mix dress has such a flattering silhouette. I also love all the details of this dress from the cuffs on the sleeve, the pleats, and best of all this beauty has pockets, perfect for carrying my Blackberry around with me.

For the working week I would team this dress with my black wedges, or even when it isn’t as warm with tights and my patent brogues, but on a sunny Sunday I took a casual twist and teamed this dress with my bright pink Keds trainers.

I don’t know why but I decided head-to-toe bright pink was cute, but hey I am a Barbie lover, and to make it even more Barbie-lious I decided to wear my new Barbie jewellery that I just bought on eBay, a necklace and ring – how cool is that ring!!!

What do you think – is there such a thing as too much pink?

Pretty Nails: It Seems Like Barbie – I Love Pink Shades

27 Mar

spacer

I find nail varnish is a nice way to jazz up an outfit, change my mood, and basically is the only make-up that I actually find accessible. I am useless at eye make-up, lipstick and me has never sat well, and my hair does one of two things down or up in a ponytail, so I find nail varnish is a nice way to inject a bit of personality into my daily look.

I have to quickly point out I am not a whiz at doing my nails, sometimes it does take a few attempts, and I haven’t quite got to the creative advances of nail art of some bloggers, but I thought I would share with you my favourite pink, red and purple hues, which coincidentally Barbie seems to love as well!!!

My nail varnish collection is quite large, but for some reason it is always the pink that is my go-to shade no matter what I am wearing, I think it is because it cheers me up the most. I am not fussy when it comes to brands, I have pink hues in every brand possible from Nails Inc, Rimmel, Topshop Nails, OPI, Lil’ Bling, Fearne Cotton, Essie, Rituals…, and my new fav has to be Revlon’s mainly because it is scented.

What are your go-to nail varnishes?

My Nails (bottom left – bottom right): Nails Inc, Sun Goddess; Revlon, Bubble Gum; Lil Bling, Raspberry Beret; Lil Bling, Pink Champagne; Topshop Nails, War Paint; OPI, Overexposed in South Beach; OPI, light pink; Fearne, purple; Star Gazer, shade 503; Nails Inc, Shoreditch; Rimmel, Funtime Fuchsia; Toma, Fantasy; Rituals…, Smart Rose; and Essie, Really Red.

Shoe Obession: Barbie Is A Shoe-a-Holic

20 Mar

spacer

It has been a month or so since I bought my last Barbie, I know fashion month really does screw with my doll needs, so I am on the look out for my next addition and I came across this shoe-obsessed Barbie doll. Working a white tulle bubble dress that has been customised with yellow, purple, black and pink shoes inside the skirt, this doll really has it bad for shoes that she is even wearing them around her neck, which is so cool that I want it in an adult size!!!

I love this fun Barbie doll especially because of her fun ponytail hairstyle, I have been known to buy dolls just on the face and hair alone and this one is perfection.

What’s not to like – just a fun shoe-loving doll – I think she would sit right at home with my dolls.

Do you have a Barbie collection? Would love to know what your last purchase was.

Hunger Games: Katniss Barbie – Add Me To The Waiting List

14 Mar

spacer

My name is Danielle and I am addicted to the Hunger Games.

My addiction started at the beginning of the year when I starting reading the fab books by Suzanne Collins, I have worked my way through two-thirds of the trilogy and my addiction is getting worse. Not only have I fallen in love with the characters especially the strength of Katniss and her love triangle with Gale and Peeta, but I have been sucked into everything about The Hunger Games, from the speculation of what Katniss’ fire dress will look like in the movie, how crazy Effie’s hair will be, as well as how the beauty will come across I am expecting great things on the nail front.

It was through this need/addiction that I came across the movie’s Capitol Couture Tumblr devoted to Hunger Games fashion and beauty, seriously cool features on this blog, that I may have reblogged a lot of it since its launch in January via my Tumblr. Then I was tempted by the China Glaze Hunger Games nail varnish collection, a new shade dedicated to every district, I so want to paint my names in District 1′s Luxe and Lush shade – it is simply divine.

But the best Hunger Games news is that now Mattel is making my dreams come true by announcing that they are launching a Katniss Barbie doll. OMG I think I might scream if I don’t get my hands on this!!! spacer spacer

The details of the Katniss Everdeen Barbie doll are sketchy, no release date, no price but rumour is that it is under $50, and no image has been unveiled, but that just means I get to speculate on what I would love to see. What I would love to see is Katniss at her very best, doing what she loves – hunting in the woods with her bow and arrow, so my first choice has to be all about her archery skills and a must is that her signature plaited hair is featured.

Or maybe they will go for glamour, making it more in-keeping with Barbie, and work her fire dress or maybe the her red gown below, part of me wants both options to be honest.

spacer

The last option, and the most unlikely has to be Katniss at the reaping in her plain clothes, whatever the Katniss Barbie looks like I am going to be top of the waiting list!!!

spacer

I think it is best to admit that I might need HG Anonymous by the time I have finished book three and seen the first film when it comes out on March 23. I think I might be more excited to see this movie than I was for Twilight.

Am I alone in my Hunger Games addiction?

Doll By Numbers: Happy 53rd Birthday Barbie

9 Mar

spacer

I think by now everyone knows how much I love Barbie, but do you all know what a fashionista she is? Well let me fill you in with a few key facts and figures about my favourite doll – who looks good in everything from wedding gowns to swimsuits, tennis dresses to ball gowns, who can work a uniform like no other and has even dressed up as Big Ben – seriously there is no end to the talent of Barbie and who would have guessed that she was celebrating her 53rd birthday – she doesn’t look a day over 17!!!

  • Did you know Barbie’s real name? It is Barbie Millicent Roberts.
  • The first Barbie doll sold for $3
  • Barbie even has a signature colour – Barbie pink is more than just an expression it is also Pantone 219
  • Not content with just one career, Barbie has worn more than 130+ outfits ranging from and air stewardess to police woman, and even a fire fighter and shuttle pilot
  • Barbie has owned more than 50 pets from the classic dogs, cats, and horses, to the more extreme zoo variety such as a chimpanzee, a panda, a lion club, a giraffe and even a zebra
The facts I love most are her fashion connections – did you know…
  • That more than 70 designers have outfitted Barbie including Christian Dior, Kate Spade, Juice Couture, Vera Wang and my favourite designer doll in recent years has to be the Christian Louboutin Cat Burglar Barbie
  • More than 105 million yards of fabric has been used in making Barbie and friends’ fashions, making Mattel one the largest apparel manufacturers in the world
  • Barbie has 1,000+ different shoe styles in her doll’s closet
What the designer’s have to say about Barbie:

“Barbie represents a confident and independent woman with an amazing ability to have fun while remaining glamorous.”  – Diane von Furstenberg

“I started dressing Barbie dolls with my own designs at an early age.”  – Anna Sui

“As a little girl, I spent countless hours playing with my Barbie doll’s, even designing and sewing one-of-a kind outfits for the doll–I guess you could say Barbie gave me my start as a designer.”  – Cynthia Rowley

The best fact I have found is that it takes 100 people, designers, seamstresses, pattern makers and stylists needed to create a single Barbie outfit and look – but it is totally worth it. Do you remember what your first Barbie doll was wearing? Mine was wearing an exquisite sparkly silver gown and I adored it.

My current Barbie lust is all about Hope Diamond Barbie designed by the legendary Robert Best. As well as the gorgeous deep blue charmeuse gown that she is wearing, which has an Oscar feel about it, this Barbie is all about the replica of the famous blue diamond, which adorns her neck – very chic!!!
