Couture Spring 2012: Back To The 20s With Givenchy
26 Jan
If you are after drama and exquisite detailing from Paris Couture Fashion Week then you don’t have to look further than Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy. Once again, his Givenchy couture offering was divine, with the Art Deco era of the Twenties and Thirties a key influence in the collection.
There may only be 10-pieces, but each floor-length gown has a feminine appeal, with geometric embroidery, crystal embellishments and fringed detailing in a colour palette of black, white, brown, cream and bronze – all presented with the most opulent of jewellery and elbow-length gloves.
Of course I can’t look at Couture without thinking Oscars and these three are my top picks. I am going for Rooney Mara choosing the black number, minus the jacket, but hoping that she pairs it with some of the jewellery from the collection. I also loved the white and bronze dresses as well. I think the halterneck bronze design is the most likely to go from runway to red carpet.
I also love the basketball court setting – it really made the dresses look incredible and if possible more feminine. Loved the collection.

Couture Spring 2012: Atelier Versace – I Spy Oscar Gowns
24 Jan
Yesterday saw Donatella showcase her couture line Atelier Versace for the first time since 2004 at l’Ecole des Beaux Art in Paris with actresses Diane Kruger and Cameron Diaz spotted pick out their next red carpet dresses. I am so glad that she did a presentation as the collection was full of glamour, exquisite detailing and most of all it was nice to spy potential Oscar gowns for my best dressed list.
There were only 15 looks presented, but wow what a 15, with gorgeous eveningwear gowns treading the gold staircase with leather hot pants, corsets, and biker jackets. The colourway was just divine from gorgeous pearl grey hues, mixed in with vibrant golds, and my favourite designs were the vivid orange, and acid green and yellow shades, which looked amazing in the sculpted corsets with metal detailing, encrusted crystals, transparent lace and leather.
I just loved the 3D qualities to the waist, neckline, bust and shoulders, which will just be perfect on the red carpet and I am sure a Lady Gaga music video. I could also see this gold number being worn by Jennifer Lopez, maybe for a live show of American Idol? But I also think it if it could be reworked into a floor-skimming evening gown with chiffon train then Diane Kruger would be a vision at the Oscars.
My Oscar picks have to be these pearl grey gowns, which I think just have a gorgeous silhouette about them with the metal work embellishments. If Anne Hathaway is going to attend can you please try on this long-sleeved version, I love the shoulders, the sheer texture and that waist skimming metal work detailing.
I could see this shape dress in a more neutral colour being worn by Angelina Jolie as well as Nicole Kidman, but I would love someone to give this vibrant orange a go.
Last word has to be given to those sky-high heels – how divine are these with the leather tongues detailing to the front.
