Description:

Expressive is an entry to mid level picture exchange application that allows children to communicate through the use of pictures. Many children with Autism and other disabilities such as Apraxia of Speech, Down Syndrome, and Cerebral Palsy have their communication impaired and could benefit from using pictures to express themselves.

Expressive was developed by a Speech and Language Pathologist, certified by the American Speech and Hearing Association.

The basic idea behind Expressive is it provides a set of pictures organized into categories, as the person touches the images, a corresponding audio is played.

What are people saying about it?

“Expressive just took me 2 minutes to set up to say “I Want Cake” very audibly on my iPad. – when I am showing it to other parents, that is about how much time they will have to learn to use it so I can be confident of it being useful. I really like that it addresses the the need for building autoclytics – which are so difficult to teach in children with Autism and so important for building relationships with people outside of your family home. They can only be learned by rote but having them there as a choice to be prompted makes the program so much easier – I only wish this was available when my son was at the same stage, as my daughter is now.”( lisa domican said 5:50PM on 2-03-2011 – Mother of child with Autism)
