Just a ‘child’? Regional Event, Sandy 24.03.12

by Ed Jones

spacer It was with great excitement that we headed off to Sandy in Bedfordshire last Saturday for the next Just a ‘child’? Regional Equipping Event of our 2012 tour. The vision of the Just a ‘child’? Regional Equipping Events is to gather together those who work amongst children from across the denominations. We are passionate about supporting them in the ministry amongst children they are involved in, in their churches, within their neighbourhoods and as part of their communities. We want to not only equip them to share Jesus with the children they work amongst, but also explore how they can release children to tell others about God’s son.

Holiday Club Equipping, Newbury Baptist Church (28th January 2012)

by Ed Jones

One of the exciting things that we’re seeking to develop more and more through Arise Ministries, are intentional relationship with churches, that are not just about ‘one event’ or a ‘single expression of ministry’, but are purposefully seeking to develop exciting new opportunities for children within a community to hear about jesus. One such example of this happening is in Newbury… Continue Reading

Brentwood Running Festival (30th October 2011)

by Ed Jones

It all began on the evening of the 6th March 2011. Having just run the Silverstone Half Marathon that day, I was happily relaxing at home enjoying the congratulatory text messages, phone calls and Facebook posts from friends and family after what had been a pretty run. Now there is always the thought of what challenge is next, but I certainly wasn’t planning anything. That was until one Mr Ian Barnett (of the band Big Fish Little Fish who work with Arise at various events) started texting with a plan… Continue Reading

Over the (H)edge (3th-4th August 2011)

by Ed Jones

spacer

Now not wanting to confuse anyone, I’m not referring here to the 2006 animated film which starred a rather unique raccoon voiced by Bruce Willis. No nor is this post a reference to the recent ‘hack’ job that was performed on the hedge in the Jones’ garden. No Over the (H)edge (as it became known) was in part a pastoral response to Leading Edge not taking place, but also simply a gathering of people for a few days camping who sought to meet with God*. Arise Ministries were there to for two days to work amongst the children who came along… Continue Reading

Westcliff Baptist Church (17th July 2011)

by Ed Jones

One of the many quotes attributed to the famous Italian Saint, Francis of Assisi is the one that goes something like, “Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words.” I was reminded of this quote last Sunday as I drove away having spent the morning with Westcliff Baptist Church… Continue Reading

Junior Solid (10th July 2011) – Who’s your daddy?

by Ed Jones

Its not every day that you get to spend with 400 children in a ever growing sweatier sports hall – while sharing the opportunity to follow Jesus!

Junior SOLID is a one day event that takes place on the second Sunday in July. Its the same weekend as the SOLID Youth Festival, which runs for the whole weekend. Both events are hosted on the Stubbers activity site in Essex… Continue Reading

SOLID (9th July 2011) – Dead man walking.

by Ed Jones

spacer Do you ever find yourself having one of those days that feels like its been pulled straight out of the movie  Groundhog Day? It’s as if you are Phil Connors (played superbly by Bill Murray in my opinion), a guy who is seemingly forever trapped in the same day. Destined it seems to wake with the alarm at 6:00am to the same radio station, music playing and presenters with the same ‘not really that funny the first time’ jokes?… Continue Reading

Preparing for Junior SOLID (July 2011)

by Ed Jones

‘ One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.’

Many will have heard the famous poem for which that is the first line, the ‘Footprints’ Poem, the ‘I had a dream’ poem. Attributed to various authors down the years, every version though paints a similar picture. I’m currently prepare for my part in next weekends,  Junior SOLID event in Essex (www.solidessex.wordpress.com), where  along with the Youth Festival we will be considering from the New Testament letter of 1 Peter , chapter 2, verse 21:

‘To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.’ Continue Reading

Beulah Baptist Church (12th June 2011)

by Ed Jones

spacer My head on the one hand was trying to tell me just to listen to what they had to say and not be thinking about how I might respond – seeking to give them the benefit of the doubt really and hear them out. On the other hand though, there were various ‘personally-defensive’ questions racing round inside my head such as ’why did they think that’, ’what was it that had given them that impression’, ’didn’t they get what we were  trying to achieve’ and ’why hadn’t they said something before now’?  Continue Reading
