Entropion

Entropion is a condition where the edges of the eyelid turn in so that the eyelashes rub against the surface of the eye. It usually affects the lower eyelid. This condition can be present at birth. Babies are rarely affected by this disorder since their lashes are soft and are not capable of damaging the cornea. However, in adults the condition is caused by weakening of the muscles or a spasm which surrounds the lower portion of the eye. As a result the eyelid turns inward. The risk factors which may lead to the formation of Entropion are Aging, Infection from trachoma and burns from chemicals.
