Getting information on & from prisons

Release of Information form for PA state prisoners.

Speaking up for your family & loved ones inside- (many PA state prisons will refuse to discuss any issues regarding inmates- especially medical issues- even if the caller is a close family member). Save time & hassle by having your loved one fill out a release form (make sure it's filled out completely, including dates, and signed by the prisoner and a witness)

Right to Know Law requests

Much information about the Pa Department of Corrections is not available on their website & often they won't tell you about it over the phone. In fact, sometimes you have to file a version of Pennsylvania's "Freedom of Information" Act, called the Right to Know Act (or Sunshine Law). That's what we've done, on a number of issues. Many of our requests have been granted:  view our research

Remember, anyone can file a "Right to Know Law" request with the Department of Corrections (or, in fact, with any PA governmental body) Find out more here

If you've done/are doing research on PA prisons (or prisons generally) that you'd like to share, we'd love to hear from you!
