A National Writing Project Site
Sharing and believing in the power of writing across Northeast Arkansas and the Delta
The National Writing Project (NWP) is a teacher-driven professional development program that strengthens teachers' skills and understanding of teaching writing. It serves teachers of writing at all grade levels, primary through university, and in all subjects. The mission of the NWP is to improve student achievement by improving the teaching of writing and learning in the nation's schools.
The cornerstone to the NWP project is the four-week Invitational Summer Institute, which allows experienced teachers to explore their own writing and instructional practices. Summer Institute participants typically discover that joining a community of writers is a powerful incentive, one that inspires risk-taking and writing that matters.
THE NATIONAL WRITING PROJECT'S CORE BELIEFS AND PRINCIPLES
The mission of the National Writing Project is to build a network of educators in all disciplines in order to improve the teaching of writing and the education of all students in our nation's schools. The NWP includes elementary, secondary and college teachers of all disciplines. Founded in 1974, the National Writing Project is comprised of over 200 college-based sites in 50 states.
The Summer Institute is founded on core beliefs shared by sites around the nation:
