About Me

I’m a dad and husband. I mention this at first because probably more than anything else I have done in life, this has changed me.  I’m very engaged in the life of my children, and prior to school, I was the
stay-at-home parent.  There’s a lot you can learn from playing chutes-and-ladders with you daughter 3,498 times.

I’m an English major and a Church History professor.  I graduated from Samford University with major in English.  For my honor’s thesis
I wrote a fantasy novel, which I pull out every now and then and read as an act of corporal mortification.  After college I attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary to get a M.Div. and a
Ph.D. in Church History.  For those of you who care, this was before the fundamentalist takeover, which means I had the privilege of sitting at the feet of statesmen like Leon McBeth and William
Estep.  I currently teach at the Logsdon School of Theology at Hardin-Simmons University.

I’m a chaplain, pastor, church planter.  I love the world of academics, but I would go crazy if I wasn’t a practitioner as well.  I have over twenty years of experience in pastoral ministry which
includes planting one of the first contemporary churches in Abilene.  I continue to serve as an interim pastor, and I serve as chaplain at HSU.

In my life I have been a surveyor offshore, a sports photographer while in college, and an assistant manager at a Michael’s arts and crafts store.

I love the outdoors, really good coffee, Cajun cooking, science fiction and fantasy, jazz, and hanging around people who love life and don’t take themselves (or me, for that matter) too seriously.

My interests include playing with my children, hiking, camping, and reading.  I reside in Abilene with my wife, and two children.
