Backstage at The Carousel
A Different Take On Our Treasure
Some
additional and unusual shots of the Forest Park Carousel, which we hope
to hear very soon will be open for the summer. Yes, we know we've
heard good news -- but we're waiting to hear an official announcement.
And our feeling is that we'll be hearing something very, very
soon.
Scenes From A Foggy Night
Fog Blankets Woodhaven Overnight
Fog
has a way of turning the innocent into the mysterious, the safe
into the dangerous -- and on a recent foggy night in Woodhaven we took
a tour to see the effect it had on our town. We captured some
eerie sights on the streets and in the park -- one of our favorite
weather related posts ever.

A Great Night for Woodhaven
Street Changes Fail; Rezoning Passes
In
front of a packed house, Tuesday Night's meeting of CB9 saw proposed
changes to 84th Street and 89th Avenue go down in flames, both
rejected unanimously. On the same night, the city's proposed
rezoning of Woodhaven and Richmond Hill passed, also unanimously.
All in all, a great night for Woodhaven.

The Art of the Carousel
A Closer Look At The Forest Carousel
Hidden
in plain sight around the top of our Carousel is a series of paintings
that pay homage to the history of the Forest Park Carousel, Forest park
iteslf and the surrounding communities. Literally, a painted
tribute to Queens. We spotted these painting on our
last tour of our local jewel -- you can see that tour here.
Dumped!
Illegal Dumper Caught on Film
Smile!
You're on Candid Camera, you slob! We were out taking
pictures of signs on 96th Street, near 89th Avenue, when we spotted
this guy dumping a bag of household garbage outside of PS 306.
This spot had been a magnet for illegal garbage and this creep
looks like he'd done this before.

Inside the Carousel Again
Carousel Tour Sparks Optimism
The
Parks Department hosted a group of potential vendors, residents and
members of the media last week for a look at the Forest Park Carousel.
It was a rainy day and the visit was an unhurried treat.
The Carousel appears to be in great shape and in good working
order. Here's hoping that a deal can be reached and the carousel
opened in time for the Summer of 2012. Leonora Lavan Profiled in NY Daily News
A Look At The South Queens' Greenway
Green walkway coming our way?
The
old Rockaway Beach Branch of the LIRR has sat unused and abandoned for
about 50 years. Now, local activists are hoping that a proposal
to convert it into a haven for walkers, joggers and bicyclists will
gain the support of residents. For Woodhaven, it would run from
Victory Field to Atlantic Avenue, crossing over bridges at Park Lane
South, Jamaica Avenue, and 91st Avenue.

Freak Storm Hits Woodhaven
Halloween
Displays Covered in Snow
Unbelievable!
A record breaking snowstorm, the earliest recorded in this
region, dumped a couple of wet, heavy inches on Woodhaven.
That
we still have green leaves all over the place meant that all of the
snow and ice were dangerous to tree branches -- but it also made for
some spectacular views in Forest Park!
