Penny Auctions have put fun back in shopping, so the most important tip we can offer is Have Fun. The strategies we suggest are simple and logical because Penny Auctions are rather straightforward.

If you are new to the Penny Auction community, we suggest you start by buying some bids and start out bidding on one of our Beginner Auctions. We run several each day and you will be bidding against others who have won less than five times.

Focus on one auction at a time. Don’t spread your initial bids too thin until you become comfortable with the process.

Naturally, the site will be busier during some parts of the day and some days of the week. Late in the evening on a weeknight is a great time to bid against less traffic.

If you don’t think you will be around when the bidding ends you might want to use our Bid Jockey. Don’t hesitate to use this valuable tool – the pros do. There is more information on how this works in the FAQ section and at the Bid Jockey sign up sheet.

You will quickly notice that the action really heats up during the last couple of minutes of the auction. It won’t hurt to throw in a bid before then because occasionally the other bidders aren’t paying attention, the clock goes to zero and you win. You also want to be sure you are one of the three if there are only three bidders (you would win third place).

Decide beforehand what denomination gift card you want, what you are willing to pay and be sure you have plenty of bids. Try not to get caught up in the excitement of the bidding and lose sight of your original plan.

The cost of shipping and handling is currently $4.00 per gift card so you always know exactly what you are paying for a card. Some states also compel us to collect state sales and use taxes. The gift card list will give you an estimated shipping lead-time.

Watch what is going on. If everyone is buzzing around a $400.00 regular auction you might steal a deal on a 40 bid pack.

Bidding on bid packs is a good strategy. If you buy 40 bids worth $30.80 ($0.77 per bid) for $3.00 plus 15 bids, your cost would be $11.55 + $3.00 or $14.55. Your cost per bid would be $14.55 / 40 = $0.36375 and give you a big value advantage when bidding against other bidders that paid $0.77 for each of their bids. Don’t forget that as a member of the “Turf Club” you will get a rebate the following month of 20% of your bids (15 bids x 20% = 3 bids). That drops your net cost per bid to $0.306 each. And there is even more good news. Pennies Trifecta LLC also allows you to "Buy It Now" on bid packs. For example if you spend 15 bids on a 40 bid pack auction, anytime before the bidding ends you can buy a 40 bid pack for 40 bids minus the 15 bids you spent = 25 x $0.77 = $19.25. It is hard to lose on a deal like that.
