Skipping navigation

If you wish to skip to content links that are embedded in our pages these will be picked up by appropriate screen reader software. They allow site visitors who use screen readers to skip the navigation elements and move directly to the main content without having to wait while the screen reader goes through the navigation of the website.

They also allow site visitors who are not able to use a mouse/pointing device to skip to links within the content without having to tab through all of the links in the navigation. All real clever stuff.

Text only version

To view the site in text only, use the 'text-only' link at the top of every page.

The thankQ web site uses Betsie to provide a text only version of our web pages. Betsie converts a web page to text-only, which can help users with screen readers or text browsers. It also allows you to customise the appearance of the page, which can be helpful for users with dyslexia or visual impairments.

Betsie stands for BBC Education Text to Speech Internet Enhancer, and is a simple script which is intended to alleviate some of the problems experienced by people using text to speech systems for web browsing. Betsie is currently used on the BBC website and on many other sites around the world.
