Lynda Bellingham set to cast a magical spell over West Yorkshire's biggest pantomime

Bradford’s Alhambra Theatre has announced that this year they will stage the most popular pantomime of them all - Cinderella.

The Theatre has already announced Billy Pearce’s return to the Alhambra for his 14th Bradford panto.  The popular Yorkshire comedian will lead the cast in the role of Buttons.  He is joined by Lynda Bellingham, the renowned actress and broadcaster and much-loved, warm and quick-witted panellist on ITV's Loose Women, who reprises her role as The Fairy Godmother following her record-breaking debut pantomime season in Birmingham last year.

Lynda Bellingham has enjoyed a rich acting career spanning 40 years, with highlights including her roles as Helen Herriot in All Things Great and Small and Faith Grayshott in Second Thoughts and Faith in the Future.  For Lynda her biggest triumph was in creating the role of Chris (as played by Helen Mirren in the film of the same name) in Calendar Girls, both for the national tour and in the West End.  Lynda is well-known to a generation as the ‘Oxo Mum’, having played the role in television commercials for sixteen years!

Michael Harrison, managing director of Qdos Entertainment’s pantomime division and executive producer of Cinderella says:

“We are delighted that we have been able to secure Lynda as the Fairy Godmother in this lavish production of the most popular panto title of them all.

As well as beautiful sets, stunning and outrageous costumes, Cinderella has that very special moment when Cinderella is transformed from rags-to-riches and magically transported to the Ball.”

The Alhambra Theatre have changed the title of this year’s pantomime to Cinderella from the previously advertised Sleeping Beauty after discussions between the Theatre and Qdos Entertainment, producers of the Theatre’s pantomime, in order to accommodate this star casting.

Cinderella, considered to be the most popular title of all pantomimes, will run as previously scheduled from Saturday 15 December 2012 to Sunday 3 February 2013.  Customers are advised the tickets they have already purchased or reserved for Sleeping Beauty will remain valid for the same performance and time; there is no need to contact Bradford Theatres for new tickets.

More casting for Cinderella will be announced in the coming months.

Tickets for Cinderella at the Alhambra Theatre can be booked by calling the Box Office on 01274 432000 or online at bradford-theatres.co.uk (booking fees apply).  Cinderella runs from Saturday 15 December 2012 to Sunday 3 February 2013.
