Business Spotlight: Frame de Art

spacer Brian Hart is at the "heart" of this thriving frame shop on S. Broadway in Englewood. From as far back as he can remember, all he cared about was pictures on the wall, even before furniture. He found himself intrigued by the frames and the design and what they did for the room. Even in his CSU dorm room! So right after graduating from college in 1991, Brian moved to Denver and found a space near DU for his frame shop. He opened up with not much money or experience, but was passionate about providing a way to make people's pictures look incredible.

Frame de Art moved to it's Englewood location in 2006 when Brian was lucky enough to buy a building and make it his own. Last year, they celebrated their 20 year anniversary with a huge blowout party at the shop. Over 400 people came to support their business and the accomplishments they've received. It's no surprise to hear how many people came, when you meet Brian and see his flare for community involvement. He won the "Caring Community Award" from the City of Englewood in 2009 for making his business a true community member.

Brian employs 3 full time people and 2 part time people, which is a lot for a single location frame shop. He is committed to providing amazing service and quality to his customers, and needs those employees to help him do that. He also happens to care about the people he employs, and feels its his duty to make sure they are taken care of with a stream of business coming in. Brian says what makes him happy every day at work is getting unusual and challenging memories to encapsulate for people. "That's what we do, we preserve people's lives here". His favorite most recent project was Birdman's three guitars framed by Bob, his right hand man. They used a skull frame and made each a glass case in which he can display the guitars but also use them on a regular basis. He also fondly remembers framing Amy Van Dyken's gold medals years ago.

"My favorite part of being here is getting to know each customer individually and getting to help them with what they need". Brian is happy with where Frame de Art is. "If we opened another shop, we'd lose that personal touch that means so much to me and to owning this business". Every year the business gets busier and busier so they're obviously doing something right. They also won "Small Business of the Year" in 2009 from the Englewood Chamber of Commerce and "Small Business Person of the Year" from the Rotary Club.

Brian joined the Mile High Business Alliance because he feels it is an organization that truly cares about small businesses, using a variety of creative ways to bring businesses together and also promote businesses to the community. He is already so aligned with the "local first" message, that it seemed a natural fit to become a member. Brian has graciously framed all of our Local Flavor Guides in beautiful, pleasing frames. If you own a business in one of these neighborhoods, give him a call and see if you can get one too!

Frame de Art is celebrating their 21st anniversary on March 15th. They'd love nothing more than to frame your memories as a way to celebrate:
