When you select Sorenson as your default VRS provider, Sorenson will provide you with a local 10-digit number. You choose how to use each number. If you experience an emergency, SVRS provides you with Enhanced 911 (E911) services to assist you in your time of crisis. Sorenson handles more E911 calls than all other VRS providers combined. You’re safe with Sorenson. Sorenson provides additional advanced features and services called Sorenson Gold Services. Choosing a Default Provider
All deaf and hard-of-hearing users must choose a default VRS provider. The choice is entirely yours; you should choose a provider that gives you the best features and services that meet your needs. All users must select a default VRS provider to make calls other than emergency 911 calls.
What will my default VRS provider offer?
Your default VRS provider will give you a local 10-digit number, provide you with enhanced 911 (E911) service and offer you special enhanced features. The VRS provider you choose will offer support for your videophone equipment and will place all your deaf-to-hearing and hearing-to-deaf calls through its VRS system. Remember the following when choosing a default VRS provider:
- You can receive a local 10-digit number from any provider.
- You can switch VRS providers at any time and take your local number with you. This process is called “porting your number.”
- You can make and receive calls through any VRS provider, regardless of who you have chosen as your default provider. This is called “dial-around” calling.
- You can use any videophone no matter what VRS company you select as your default provider.
