Current Projects

Writing:

Currently, I am working on a novel dealing with man’s uncanny relationship with (a) god and the consciousness of God. It is tentatively titled Singularity. I’ve just finished a series of poetic reflections on memory and the death of my mother titled Reconsolidation.

Current writing collaborations include an investigation of the chronovisor and time travel with Laura Vena (forthcoming) and a science fiction novel with Eugene Lee.

Forthcoming: Fried Chicken Dinner, a chapbook (Insert Press/PARROT Series); a story in Dog Horn’s anthology Women Writing the Weird; excerpts from Singularity in the anthology LA Letters: Post Fukushima edited by Will Alexander; The Other Worlds, a chapbook (Eohippus Labs)

Editorial/Curatorial Projects:

Along with Joe Milazzo and Eric Lindley, I am Co-Founder and Co-Editor of the online journal [out of nothing], an electronic publication that features new works in image, sound, text, and the digital arts. Our fifth issue was recently released, and we are at work on our first print anthology (#0) and next online issue, forthcoming in 2012.

Along with Laura Vena and Joe Milazzo, I am Co-Founder and Co-Curator of Strophe, an interdisciplinary arts organization that curates various literary conversations, workshops, field excursions, and collaborative projects. We are currently exploring the stakes of narrative in contemporary experimental writing, and have most recently presented at the Southwest/Texas Popular & American Culture Association‘s Annual Conference. Strophe’s newest project is a new interdisciplinary lecture series called Novum, housed at Avenue 50 Studio. Strophe/Novum has hosted such artists and speakers as Douglas Kearney, Sean Griffin, Evelyn Serrano, Vanessa Place, Ryan Tanaka, Will Alexander, Aaron Kunin, Elizabeth Chin & Eyeball Burp.

I am currently Poetry Coordinator at Avenue 50 Studio (with Laura Vena) and Feature Reviews Editor at HTMLGIANT, the internet literature magazine blog of the future created by Blake Butler. I also curate LALITSCENE with Harold Abramowitz, a calendar of Los Angeles literary events.

Research:

My research interests include consciousness studies, psychology, theoretical neuroscience, and metaphors of consciousness and religion. I am especially interested in the relationships between models of consciousness and narrative theory, as well as the role and consciousness of God in relation to neurotheology and mythology. I have presented papers on such subjects at various conferences internationally, including the Julian Jaynes Conference on Consciousness in Canada, Encuentro de Jóvenes Escritores del Norte in Mexico, the Southwest/Texas Popular & American Culture Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Science and Nonduality Conference in San Rafael, CA and &NOW: A Conference of Innovative Writing & the Literary Arts in Buffalo, NY. I was also invited to present at the Toward a Science of Consciousness Conference in Hong Kong but was unable to attend. {Selected Abstracts}

Teaching:

I am currently teaching a course titled “Graphic Texts: Looking at Text and Image Combined” at the California Institute of the Arts. The course looks at various image/text systems including graphic novels, comics, rebus, concrete poetry, maps, hypertext, graffiti, asemic writing and artists books.

I have also taught writing composition, critical thinking, GED, high school math and English, and SAT prep, and recently worked with the nonprofit Children Youth and Family Collaborative (CYFCLA) where I helped raise $1.3 million to help foster youth in South LA.

I have worked as a freelance Web Designer & Developer and as Social Media Consultant for Alleyne Connect and BXX Consulting. I am currently Founder/CEO of POTG Design.  {Design}
