THE ZOO

I took these pictures at The Bronx Zoo, one of my favorite places in New York City. In addition to all the wonderful animals, I also love all the hand painted faux backgrounds in the exhibits and all the Beaux-Arts Zoochitecture of the buildings. I was there a few days before Christmas. It was cold [...]

    spacer

These are the images from my latest EVB fashion story. I collaborated with fashion designer George McCracken to create a series of photographs featuring George’s latest creations. Dancer and Choreorgapher Brian Simerson, along with a little trampoline, helped our model, Justin (Red), achieve the more active poses in the set.

    BASTROP WILDFIRES AFTERMATH

    spacer

I visited my brother last weekend in Austin, Texas. While I was there, we toured the aftermath of the Bastrop Wildfires. The fires ravaged a huge area southeast of the capital this past September. Our guide, Josh, is a volunteer with a local search and rescue unit and had first hand experience with the disaster. [...]

    GEORGE McCRACKEN IN STUDIO

    spacer

George McCracken is a New York based independent fashion designer. His clothes utilize high end tailoring and elevated fabrics, but his designs speak in a casual minimalist voice, even across a range of garments, from high-end suiting to his new line of japanese-made denim.

I personally experienced George’s clothes for the first time last summer when [...]

    RACHAEL WARNER

    spacer

Rachael Warner is a Brooklyn based painter and a friend of mine from college. I’ve followed her work over the years as she’s developed a really wonderful and unique style of portrait painting. Rendered in hyper real colors and patterns, her paintings highlight and celebrate the individuality and charisma of her chosen subjects.
    I photographed [...]

    “BORDER STORIES” FOR LATINA MAGAZINE

    spacer

Latina Magazine sent me to El Paso, Texas to photograph a story about the people who cross The Paso del Norte Bridge. The bridge connects the downtown area of Cuidad Juarez in Mexico to downtown El Paso in Texas. Every day up to 30,000 people cross the bridge on foot from Mexico into the US. People cross for a variety of reasons including school, work, shopping, entertainment and family get-togethers.

    ANDREW YANG

    spacer

Andrew Yang is well known for his incredible Kouklitas, a series of beautiful and intricate couture dolls. I met Andrew two years ago when I was asked by East Village Boys to photograph him selling his creations at a doll expo in New Jersey and I’ve been following his work ever since. After running into Andrew at a party a few weeks ago, I felt compelled to photograph him again, this time in a more personal way.

    FROHAWK TWO FEATHERS

    spacer

Frohawk Two Feathers (Umar Rashid) is an artist I met on a recent visit to Los Angeles. His gorgeous, highly detailed, paintings and drawings are provocative reimaginings of colonial history, but they are also, on a very basic level, pictures of awesome dudes, wearing cool outfits, doing badass stuff.
On the day I photographed him, [...]

BRIDGET EVERETT FOR EAST VILLAGE BOYS

    spacer

I had the pleasure of hanging out with Bridget for a day last week before she performed in her monthly show, Our Hit Parade, at Joe’s Pub. The day included lingerie shopping at Rainbow, a hot bath to relax and memorize song lyrics, rehearsal with her band backstage before the show, and culminated with her killer performance that evening.

    REALITY WANTED

    spacer

Reality Wanted is a series of portraits of individuals who hope to be cast on a reality television show. I became interested in fame and people who seek fame when I worked for a number of years as an art director at Star Magazine. During that time, I found myself particularly drawn towards those who were looking to become famous through the medium of reality T.V. Though some of the people I photographed for this series have particular skills and talents that warrant our attention, such as singing, cooking, or design, the main commodity being offered by my subjects is simply themselves. Many of the people I photographed just want to have a television show made about their lives.

    BROAD CHANNEL

    spacer

Broad Channel is my first-time collaboration with filmmaker Sarah J. Christman. Friends since childhood, Sarah and I share a fascination with altered landscapes and an expressive documentary approach. Broad Channel is a multi-channel project exhibiting our year-long exploration of a narrow strip of public shoreline in Jamaica Bay, Queens. My photographs and Sarah’s films and soundscapes closely witness the unceasing waves of visitors, the cycling seasons and tides, and the flight patterns of airplanes and migratory birds surrounding the unusual urban island of Broad Channel.

CAMMI CLIMACO FOR EAST VILLAGE BOYS

    spacer

These are the portraits I shot of the artist Cammi Climaco for her interview with East Village Boys. Looking at Cammi’s work, I thought it would be appropriate and fun to do some studio portraits of her that are informed by the customs, and to a certain extent the aesthetics, of american high-school senior-year portraits. My aim was not to make silly ironic fake senior portraits of an artist acting like a teenager, but rather have the senior-portrait qualities function as the construct for a serious portrait shoot of an artist who is obsessed with that period of personal development. I was also really happy to have a good reason to use that purple back drop.
