The HUGO Mutation Database Initiative & now various HGVS members have been working towards a system of collecting and displaying all mutations since 1994. We are now close to the final system that will revolutionize the way we look at and handle human variation data. In the proposed system, human variation data will be submitted directly to a WayStation, and then sent to specific Gene Editors for evaluation because they can review it most properly. After review, data will be deposited into any relevant existing LSDB, a new central database and any other database that wishes to have it for example HGVbase. The submission, known as a "Genome Variation Report" (GVR) will be issues a Human Mutation reference if accepted, and may also be eligible for a PubMed ID.

The first part of this system, the WayStation to collect submissions will officially open early 2005. Funding to support the system and for the Central Database however is required. Our consortia have been applying for grants throughout the world for the past couple of years without much luck.

Original Project Specifications
WayStation - Now open for TRIAL submissions. Please register and become a beta-tester by submitting one or two already published or mock submissions and then send us feedback.
Gene Editors

Gene Editors will evaluate the data submitted to the WayStation, much like in an online journal. We have already obtained volunteers for 393 genes. May be you would like to help. For more information click here.
