Success Secrets: Success is a state of mind

Have you ever wondered why some people are successful and wealthy while others — maybe even you — are not? Have you ever observed that successful people aren’t the most brilliant, the best educated, or the hardest working? Have you ever questioned how successful people think and believe, that maybe others, even you, may not think and believe right now? I’ve read and studied the law of success and the law of attraction for more than twenty five years now. Some people go on to great success.

Yet many others — using the same law of success they learned from the same sources — aren’t doing very well. Some even go into foreclosure and bankruptcy.

What’s the difference? Why do some people apply the law of success and live fulfilled and happy lives and others are fraught with poverty and failure? Yes, your unconscious beliefs do play a significant role in your success. They are not the only missing link however.

F. Scott Fitzgerald said “the rich are different from you and me”. That saying obscures the truth of the laws of success. The truth is that we are all far more similar than we are different.

Successful people have learned to apply the law of success in such a way that wealth, health and success begets more wealth, health and success.

They have learned how to apply the law of success in spite of worry, doubt, and fear.

They have learned how to apply the law of success in spite of doubting themselves sometimes and become their own best cheerleader.

They have learned how to apply the law of success by developing the courage to act and take risks in spite of being scared to act.

They have learned to apply the law of success by making careful studied choices to take as much of the risk out as possible.

They have learned to apply the law of success by fighting criticism from within and without.

They have learned to apply the law of success by dreaming really big and also taking small steps.

They have learned to apply the law of success by getting along with people and being a person whom others are willing to follow.

They have learned to apply the law of success by having congruity between who they are as a person and what they do.

They are honest, have strong values, and have a powerful faith.

They have learned to apply the law of success by visualizing success, by cultivating optimism, and by developing mental toughness.

Most importantly they have learned to apply the law of success by a utilizing a process of self mastery that respects themselves and others, develops discipline and organization, and allows them to tap creativity and wisdom from higher sources.

Here’s the best news of all. You can be as successful as you wish. Each one of the skills are learnable. You can learn to think, act, behave and be like the most successful of the successful and in your own unique way. In fact the only way to be successful, is to be uniquely you. But the characteristics are teachable and learnable. It is not only possible, it is absolutely within your grasp to become as successful as you wish. How much do you want to have success, good health, wisdom and wealth? Are you willing to go the distance?

A gambler in a recent movie asked “Is you in or is you out?” Your choice is not a gamble. Your choice is another step closer to success. Choice is powerful. Make your choice.

Positivity a secret of success

Thursday, March 31st, 2011 12:02am

Positivity is a powerful secret of success.

People with a millionaire mindset have developed certain qualities of themselves that helps them succeed.  Self –Confidence, the ability to Choose and Act, Perception of Possibilities, Hope, Optimism, the ability to Cooperate with others, Persistence, Perseverance, the ability to deal with adversity, Creativity, Imagination, Intuition,  and Listening to their inner compass are just some of these qualities.

Napoleon Hill identifies many of these characteristics in his Law of Success.  What’s important is to know that these qualities can be developed and expanded by each of us continuously our whole lives.

Positive Psychology has documented this by research during the last decade. Barbara Fredrickson PhD. from University of North Carolina has done groundbreaking research on what she calls Positivity (2009).  Negativity is familiar to all of us.  Self talk that is negative, criticism, shame, guilt and hopelessness has probably been experienced by many people.  Negativity and survival oriented feelings and thinking make us shrink and contract.  Positivity is tapping into our own wellspring of strength which helps us to expand, get more creative, hopeful, see possibilities, cope with adversity, see more solutions, and become more open when faced with problems.  Positivity broadens our outlook, allowing thoughts and actions to surface, where we can envision win-win solutions, and we can build lasting relationships.  It expands your world view – you have broader physical vision, your awareness expands and blooms, you can see the big picture, when you can’t while mired in negativity.

People who have positivity are fulfilled, happier, more successful, and not just positive Pollyannaish thinking.  Who they are shifts to a fuller, more expanded, connected, creative person who functions and flourishes even in the face of adversity.  That brings about success, however they define success.    Dr Fredrickson research indicates that we need a ratio of 3:1 positive feelings and experiences to thrive and flourish; to be the best version of you.  You can take her test online by clicking here

This scientific research documents that you can change your state and become more fulfilled and successful.  Next time we will talk about how it deepens connection to our self, others, and the universe,

Recognition, Acceptance, and Coordination

Sunday, July 11th, 2010 1:45pm

Recognition, Acceptance, and Coordination
are three really important steps to be successful.

How do we coordinate all these contrary parts of self, contradicting beliefs, conflicting emotions and have some sense of being our true self? That is the age old quandary. A spiritual psychological approach with a lot of wisdom provides a five part process that I find very helpful. Psychosynthesis instead of Psychoanalysis. Bring together instead of separate into parts (although that is a helpful step in the beginning).

Recognition
Acceptance
Coordination
Integration
Synthesis

To truly be successful, we need to have all of our self on the same page. If the scared part of us is afraid to act, the cynical part of us completely assured that nothing ever works out, and the hopeful part of us thinking only positive thoughts, what do you think we radiate out to the universe? We are broadcasting very mixed signals, very conflicting feelings, and certainly opposite beliefs. Our vibration is confusing. What does the universe listen to when we are sending out such a mess of conflict?

Recognition of the conflict is the first step. Become aware that we have a small part inside, and a critical part inside, and an adult inside. Becoming conscious of the little “Family” of selves inside who have different thoughts, different beliefs, and different feelings is very helpful. Becoming conscious of our inner confusion is the first step because we are beginning to Recognize aspects of ourselves.

While not easy to do at first, Acceptance that we are a mixture of confusing signals is the next step. Beating up on ourselves is NOT the next step. Although if you have a critical part inside, you can bet that it will certainly want to go into action and tell you that you are bad and wrong for having such an internal bunch of feelings and thought. That is why you really need to reach for acceptance. Because you are able to step back, breath, see yourself, and accept yourself as you are. I have written a whole category on acceptance, which you might find helpful.

Coordination is the third step in which you take your new awareness (recognition), your new acceptance of who you are just as you are, and you begin to coordinate your personality in such a way that you can harmonize all these different points of view that is sending conflicting messages into the universe.

In future posts, we will cover these very critical steps of the process of making the signals you send out from yourself to be what you want to be emitting, rather than having yourself be reactive to whatever is happening to you. Yes. This personal journey is work. But the benefits are so worth it, and you can DO IT. IT is possible. So hold the faith. Care for yourself and others, become aware of what you think, feel, and believe, and come back here to read about the next steps.

Recognize and Accept Dreams

Wednesday, June 09th, 2010 7:21pm

Recognize And Accept Dreams

Recognize and accept dreams
because these are two important steps in success. You need your dreams to shoot for. You need your dreams to provide a compass to the essential you. Dreams can be slippery. It is very easy to forget what your dreams are. So recognize your dreams. This is Step One.

When you are caught in stress and the busyness of living it is sometimes hard to remember your dreams. In the last blog, I told you that I could go two places to paint some landscapes that are not far, but would be fun. I had already forgotten those ideas when it came time to write this entry. I had been moving. It has been raining. I forgot. And as a result was a little less of myself. Reaching up out of ordinary life allows you to be more vibrant, alive, full, radiant, and imaginative. Dreams pull you like a magnet towards something that you want.

Treat dreams as though they are cocoons that have radiant energy life forms in them, waiting to burst forth someday to reveal a powerful form of you.

We don’t have a lot of societal support for dreams, so keep them to yourself or share them only with people whom you can trust not to put you down. I have had even my best friend really pooh pooh my most precious dream so be careful with them.

Accept your dreams
. This is Step Two. Whatever your heart desires, this is a dream that belong to you. It is OK to have this dream. It is OK to want something special. That wanting comes from Source and gives you the opportunity to expand and grow. Dreams are delicate. Dreams are tender. Dreams need your loving acceptance of them. Cherish your dreams. Make space for your dreams. Allow them to emerge. And when they emerge, find ways to remember or “capture” your dreams.

Strategies to “Capture” your Dreams
Let the dreams exist. Make a special place for them. Give them their own book. If you’re really brave, get a sketch book in which you can write, and draw, or paste pictures, and add color. Don’t worry about being a great artist. Concentrate on what your dreams are, and then write them down, draw pictures, or paste in pictures from magazines. As you think about them, say to yourself “I accept my dreams.”

Create a Dream Box. Spend an afternoon browsing through magazines. Cut out words, phrases, pictures, images, and articles if you want that represent something you want. Then as life continues on, you can continue to add more to your dream box. My daughter and I went to TJ MAXX and found these wonderful boxes for less than $5.00 a couple of years ago. My daughter filled her box with pictures of horse gear she wanted to buy, furniture she would like to have, and things that made her feel good when she looked at them. My dream box has pictures of couples boating or going to the beach, and a wonderful aqua colored piece of cookware that I will own.

If you are a scrapbooker, then make a wonderful scrapbook showcasing dreams.

A friend of mine made a dream journal of the dreams he had at night, and got lots of images from National Geographic magazines to represent the dreams he recorded. You too can make a dream journal but make it for your waking dreams.

A pocket notebook
that you can keep next to your wallet might be all that you need. Just keep notes on those slippery dreams, and add more, as you get the inspiration. Right now, I have a dream box, a small notebook that I carry all the time, and a larger notebook, where I make notes to follow up. For example. I dream about painting watercolor paintings outdoors. There are several organizations that do plein air painting during the summers. So in my small notebook, I write “Paint outdoors this summer in the San Juan Islands.” In my medium size notebook, I write the results from my web search of the names and dates of where I need to go, and anything else that I might run into that relates to that dream. I sat in the library one day, and reviewed artists magazines, and looked at the artists whose work or whose color paintings gave me a fantastic response. I wrote them down in my medium size notebook because those are things I can do to help me towards the dream itself. They give me inspiration, and possibilities. Two artists that I looked at live out in the San Juans. Perhaps I will take a trip and go to their studios.

See. That’s the way dreams work.

Dreams begin to inspire and add juice to our thoughts. We begin to conceive that dreams are possible and actions you might take begin to pop into your mind.

Action of any kind is Step Three. When our dream shrink or get forgotten, we lose our imagination, our thinking gets small, our perspective shrinks.

So catching those dreams in some way is really important. The more colorful and vibrant you can describe them, the better. And since it is a dream, you don’t have to be concerned with the “what is”. You can fully indulge in the idea. My daughter dreamed about the biggest and best horse barns. I dreamed about the greatest painting trip to Scotland. She’s now living on a horse farm as the barn and horse manager. I’m living in an exquisite area that has plenty of landscapes I can paint (and weather and topography that looks a lot like Scotland).

Cherish those dreams. They are leading you someplace. Dreams help you shift states. Writing down your dreams help them to manifest. Looking through your dream box helps you upgrade your vibration and be inspirational.

Imagination is an important function in achieving success
. Click here to read more about imagination. Imagine your dreams coming true. Be choiceful and focus on what it will be like when a dream comes true. Turn your focus and attention away from the “what is” today - including the fact the what you want is not here. Because that just highlights what’s not here. Savor the thoughts of “Won’t it be wonderful when…” For more information about this topic, review the category Focus and Imagination.

So cherish these dreams. They are important. Dare to Dream.

Write It and It will Appear

Friday, November 20th, 2009 6:15pm

Write it down, and it will happen, so says law of attraction and law of success.

Have you ever found a set of goals that you wrote some years ago and found that some or many have happened? A lot is happening behind the scenes when we write something down.

First, we are placing focus on an intention. Usually as we write about our intent, we detail it, and perhaps imagine what our goal may look or feel like to us when it has happened.

Second, we put ourselves on alert. According to Henriette Anne Klauser,

Writing down your dreams and aspirations is like hanging up a sign that says, “Open for Business.” Or, as my friend Elaine puts it, by writing it down, you declare yourself in the game. Putting it on paper alerts the part of your brain known as the reticular activating system to join you in the play.”

You start subconsciously filtering what you see, hear and experience alerting yourself to anything related to what you wrote about.

Third, we put the Universe on alert that we are wanting something pretty specific. Synchonicity brings events circumstances and people to us related to what we have been writing about.

You’ll naturally be attracted to articles, books, songs, conversations about your goal.

I have been thinking of being open to have a romantic partner. When I dream at night, sometimes the dreams respond in literal and comic terms. Out pops this dream one night that said to me that my goals around partnering are stunted. That was helpful and it was funny. It let me know that I need to do some better imagining about what I would like in this partner.

Perhaps I will write to my partner about how much I am looking forward to meeting him and what fun we will have together. And I will keep on doing my personal work to be the kind of self that would attract my partner. My self-confident, humorous, generous self seems shadowed a bit by some old anger. So I’ll clean that up as I get clearer about the kind of partner I want to be, and the kind of partner I wish for.

In the meantime, I write to record the physical dreams I receive. I write to flesh out the dreams I have of the future, and I write to help myself imagine myself as a partner. Writing it down will make it happen.

Shift Your State

Saturday, April 11th, 2009 2:16pm

Shift your State when you are sending conflicting vibrations into the Universe. Your state of being is what you are offering the world vibrationally. Your state of being is what you are attracting to you. If you have gotten stuck in an identification, then you attract circumstances that match the feelings and beliefs of that identification.

For example when I was traveling, I ran out of money one year, and went to stay with my sister. She had hoped I was going to rescue her, and got very angry that I wasn’t willing to buy into her farm. She became cruel and abusive. I had a broken leg and was out of money, and felt vulnerable. I slipped into an earlier identification of feeling like I was a victim. As I went back to work, the victim mentality stayed with me, and I attracted not one, but two bosses who were also abusive. I was in a victim state.

That’s the way Law of Attraction works. Like attracts like. I felt abused. I got more of the same. Actually my sister was an angel in disguise because she helped bring out an area (an identification) that needed to be cleaned up in me vibrationally. My victim identification never believes there will be enough, contrary to the fact that I have lived a good life in wonderful places.

The gap between Source Self in me and Victim self is a pretty wide chasm. The two vibrational points in me, or you, send very differing messages into the Universe which are in conflict with each other. It is hard to manifest dreams, when a victim part of self is sending out victim vibrational offerings. Yesterday we talked about Understanding Your State.

Bridging the Gap

Traditions have used prayer, meditation, and contemplation as a way to bring our state of being into peace and harmony inside. These traditions help us bridge between Soul and Self, between Self and Universe, between Self and God. It helps us shift states, move out of a stuck point inside, and become more fluid.

Telling a new story, Imagining our success, 17 seconds, thinking accurately, focusing on what we want, not on the ‘what is’ are also ways to change states.

Recognize, Accept, Compassionately Choose, Center, Act.
These are the basic steps to change your state. Recognize where you are identified. Accept that this is where you are. Have compassion with yourself. You are where you are. This identification served you at one time. Have gratitude for what it gave you then. Take a step back. Take a breath. Now, remember that you are more than this identification. You have a center. You can choose to move to that center. You can choose to act from that center.

Often if you can understand what’s going on, you can step away from the confusion and the turmoil into a more centered place. Congratulations, you just raised your vibration. You just upleveled your identification. You just changed your state.

Thanks for stopping by.
